i was just wondering how many of you started later in life with lurchers im 45 and im just getting going with my first lurcher . i was around lurchers as a youngster but the usual distractions of life , work family and all of that ruined it all . i dont think its a mid life crisis lol i think its made it easier to train my dog im quite patient ,

Sounds ok to me, I'm far more patient, and hopefully wiser, than I was in my younger years. And when you're older there's less pressure on you to try to outdo your mates and their dogs etc. And you can go at your own, and the dog's pace with the training, work volume etc. Good luck

Lol that's another thing, you won't find me out in those conditions anymore, in my 50's, and those nights are thankfully gone lol :thumbs:

spot on mate, , its no differnce now to as it was when 1st started .!! i started at 30 year old, always had dogs around me as kid, but mainly bull breeds staffs, pits, bull mastiffs. there were lurchers back then, but being honest most were kept by gypos etc,, ionly got into lurchers by chance really, was walkin g a bull mastiff bitch one day , and seen a lurcher chase a tree rat, i thought at the time it was greyhound, but the bloke said it was colliexgreyx salukixgrey ,and i tagged along with him few times just to see his catch few rabbits, and the odd fox. and this was 33 years ago , as ive just gone 63 . and in that time seen fair few lurcher xs run over the years, and i think my dog now Buck1xgdsxgrey prob my best lurcher to date he good on rabbits, and anything that he bumps into  lol. but going back to the above they didnt want you on the ground 33 years ago and still dont, nothing changed, i only me, i carnt run as fast as i could back then. lol :D

I started 4 yrs back , had various dogs all my life, its been the steepest learning curve I've been on. I've failed with my current dog if I think about what I wanted when I started out, but I'm coming to the conclusion that you work with what you've got, whether that's inexperience or traits in the dog or lack of time/ground. I enjoy what time I get out on a mooch , I'm also hoping I can learn from mistakes I've made, and repeat my successes. I'm more patient now but I've been tested to the limit. Utilise the knowledge from experienced Dogmen, and there's some useful folk on here who've helped me out, its certainly rewarding when you do get a result, so I hear...lol

ive had terriers for years i know what you mean about a steep learning curve the lurcher has tested me at times . ive found some usefull stuff on here that got me through the tough times

Age doesn't matter IMO, Iv met some twats that have been double my age, yet I'm 25 and have enough good permission...it's just how you come across, every land owner Iv spoke to have never been a prick to me, and have always thanked me for asking. Usually it's because someone already on it.

Good luck with your dog etc. get some pics up

Atb.
