cantona 310
Last night when I went to lock dogs up the birds in my aviary were we're flying round like mad, obviously they don't fly in the dark so I was concerned , I turned a light on in te kennell then they calmed down, I couldn't see if it was one bird chasing another but again in the dark you wouldn't think so? This morning I looked at them and 2 siskins and a mule have got feathers missing above there beaks , looks like mites but I'm sure I wold have noticed it yesterday as I had a good look at them, I'm thinking its maybe damage from flŷing into te mesh? Has anyone had this before?

fireman 10,934
Fireworks, cat on the roof, mice in the flights, owl landing close by are some of the reasons they can get spooked and the damage your seeing is due to them hitting the wire.Fecking hate this fireworks bollocks every year as it allways costs someone something they cherish...
gnasher16 30,220
The time of year would make it odds on to be fireworks surely.....not quite sure how you address it with an aviary full of birds though ?.....collect them all up in an indoor cage for a few nights is all i can think but then i suppose you have to balance out the stress of that to leaving them where they are. I live in a little village and i ask my nieghbours not to have them and to be fare they understand and don't close by,but not everyone can do that and you could put a small light on and leave a radio playing so it's less of a flash and a sudden bang as such. Some folk cover their right up with old curtains and try to muffle the sounds, but either way it's a nightmare time of year and grumpy as it sounds i wish there'd ban them and only have displays out of the way as such....
