Born Hunter 17,763 Posted November 2, 2015 Report Share Posted November 2, 2015 (edited) To check if it's wheel bearing, jack the car up and wiggle the wheel in all directions to see if there's any play. I've had bearings go with no such symptoms so could still be the bearing. But generally your advice is what's given so I'm not saying you're wrong. With one, on stripping it down to remove the assembly itself showed the bearing was totally f****d. Another time a recently replaced bearing showed no sign of wear on inspection but on replacement fixed the problem. They can be b*****ds, lol. neil82 1,075 Posted November 7, 2015 Report Share Posted November 7, 2015 a lot of these types of 4x4`s can be twats to trace a knackered wheel bearing, there`s so much drag through the transmission you can`t spin a wheel fast enough to hear noise, and if you can feel play its totally shagged, if you`ve got noise try and get it lifted on a ramp and get it wheels free (all 4 in the air), start it, stick it in gear and run it up to about 50 mph, dip the clutch and get someone under it listening to each wheel (done too many x-trails) 1 Quote Link to post Share on other sites
