Ive been reading up on the process of applying for a shotgun certificate and in interested in getting one. One thing Id like to ask, after you've been granted your license and you have your shotgun in place how much hassle do you get from the police? do they come and check on a regular basis? make unannounced visits etc? Its the only thing that puts me off is the possibility that I could be giving the police license to turn up on my doorstep whenever they feel like it.

If your a good boy they won't bother you, but yes they can come and give you the once over anytime, but it's very rare.

Plus it will be the firearms dept and not just the regular beat plod.

And you aren't obliged to let them in if it's inconvenient, although I imagine that would cause you more grief than you need. IF they want to check your guns, they are supposed to make an appointment. I don't know of anyone who's had their guns spot checked.

They would only check your guns anyway so note to worry about really. You are allowed to borrow someone else's gun for 3 days I think without notification as well

what you got to hide then lol. they came and checked one of my mates last year. they phoned him and asked if they could come and check his guns,. he told them yes.. within 30 seconds they knock d the door. they were sitting out side in the car.

No nothing to hide mate lol. Just didn't like th idea of possibly giving the police an opportunity to harass me any time the feel like it.

I'd be surprised if they revisit after the application visit. Unless you give them reason to.
