Collie Blood

I do really like the collie x's, including the heavily saturated ones. I really like pure collies to be fair! But for me work wise, I think that a collie blooded lurcher with a few other bits in the mix, suits me more.

 

I've noticed that heavily collie blooded lurchers have become 'in' over the last few years. Possibly due to the ban and people being more covert??? Or is it just because there have been a few that have become internet celebrities and folk like buying into legends?

dont think j made it clear. My initial post was meant to mean, if collies can run constant day in day out, and getting told to stop before having their prize, then how come the collie x grey even when catching their prize get sickened by it? Abit of a strange one in it.. Iv not seen a dog to pick his run yet, or "jack " on rabbits

The sire was a 1/4 collie , and the dam would of had collie in her a fair few generations back.

Somewhereyourenot - I think the answer lies in their intelligence. My little bitch will work sheep ALL day if you let her, she lives for it. However, she doesn't often have to try something many times and fail, before either taking a different approach or deciding its a dumb idea. Having said that she is a stubborn little bugger and will go looking for work on her own if you let her which is annoying! She hasn't learnt that not EVERY sheep in wales needs bringing to me! Interestingly all that a collie is doing when working sheep is the whole pack hunting thing, like wolves do. The shepherd is the alpha wolf!

 

One of my favourite collie lamping moments was out with mate on here, slipped his collie x bitch on a rabbit sat in the beam down the field and she took off like a bolt of lightening. . . . . . . . in completely the wrong direction. Why? Because she was a smart dog and why would she want to chase the rabbit sat at the other end of the field. . . . . when there was one 15 yards to the side of us???

I can relate to that sort of lamping situation more than a few times over the years, and not just with collie x's
