Joe1888 672
Yesterday i was down three ferrets because of some young lads... One had to be pts, got the albino back and one is still missing.. Arranged to go ferreting today, so took the albino and the snipped hob... The hob hasnt been ferreting for a few years, so wasnt sure how he would do.. These days hes just the jill servicer/takes them out of season.. Netted up the first few sets, i put the hob in and lee put one of his hobs into another set.. Didnt take long to hear some thumping underground, after alot of f***ing around turned out the hob had killed underground and moved on.. We put in a few ferrets to try flush him out, but still no sign.... After following the albino jill, managed figure out where the rabbit was and dig down 2-3ft to it.. The hob was still awol, to be honest i was scratching my head.. Scanned all the holes and around but the mk3 wasnt picking up anything... Maybe battery was dead? Looked about incase he was walking about, then waited, waited, scanned, still nothing.. To make the most of time, myself and lee took turns each of netting up another few sets close by while one waited on the hob, hoping he would show up. After a few scans, tried scaning further away, was surprised pick up a faint signal.. Again we took turns each of digging while one ferreted the other sets, before taking another shot of digging a rabbit was about to bolt, spotted me and turned back into the warren. Further we dug down the signal got stronger. Inbetween one of lees hobs managed to bolt a rabbit, after digging through stone etc got to 4 ft where there was a rock, tried digging around it and after a while it was moving alittle... Time wasnt on our side now, it was getting dark, had to drive the pajero up the hill for some light. In the end had to dig further back and at about 5-6 ft managed to break through, the hob soon showed up after being stuck most of the day.. Think whats happened is the hob got on the wrong side of a rabbit, killed and stuck at a dead end... Because the time, no light, didnt manage to get the rabbit but thank f**k for the ferret finder, without it theres no doubt id have lost another ferret. Has to be the the biggest dig ive had so far, and the hardiest days ferreting yet and to walk away with 2 rabbits... Still plenty time left in the season yet, beats sitting in the house... Big thanks to Lee/BPR, good help digging Edited October 27, 2015 by Joe1888 7 Quote Link to post
