Omanyra 2,518
This little lass could of been a specialist rabbit dog, all she's missing is 10" of height, more stamina, and bit of recall, other than that she does ok! At least she retrieves rabbits so that's a start! I know we're in the lurcher section, so technically "rabbit specialist" should probably mean a dog that catches rabbits, but i think anything that's runner x base blood that puts rabbits in the bag one way or another qualifies for the name? My little bitch had 8 rabbits in about 6 mooches over a couple of weeks last year, i was over the moon with that, i suppose its all relative to what floats your boat, if that makes sense? Here's my other girl picking one up. She looks a handy bitch mate My eldest lads bitch, just under 22" tts, lethal on rabbits day or night, heart like a lion, and punches well above her weight. Beddy/grey sire to a DY bred ped whippet, bit of P Cork influence in the dam if i remember right Nice stamp matie Alway have a soft spot for these as they can resemble miniature deerhound crosses Seen a number working and I can see why they will suit some folk as rabbiters 1 Quote Link to post

Omanyra 2,518
The three main breeds in them are greyhound, deerhound and collie Yella was bred from a dog out off Bes who's picture is on the thread, she was off a first cross deerhound/greyhound x collie lurcher Sophie is out of yella and a lurcher x lurcher with similar breeding Pup is out of one of yellas pups x greyhound The plan was to put pup back to an old dog that I bred out of Bes Pup is only 10 month on that photo, the week that photo was taken and I was going out lamping with yella and a pure deerhound so I let a local boy take pup out as his dog was off the road, and I told him to give her a few runs, her best up till then had been 5 rabbits in one night Yella got 70 that night, my deerhound becky got 29 ( the most I've had with a deerhound) And the boy dropped pup off the next day and she had caught 30...so much for a couple if runs Edited October 26, 2015 by Omanyra 2 Quote Link to post

Omanyra 2,518
There's a guy in bedlington sort of kept it going, he had Sophie... He has some great grafters now and works the arses off them...I will get some pics I kept smaller bitches from each litter...I was eventually getting bitches of sensible sizes but some of the dogs from the same litters reached 27inches with there being deerhound blood in there Deerhound and collie do usually work together well, it's a combo that seems to "click" a lot of the time Edited October 26, 2015 by Omanyra 2 Quote Link to post
