What a cracking thread.

 

I wanted a rabbiting dog, a ferreting companion more than anything I do like my lamping but wanted to concentrate more on daytime work. I knew what I wanted and in time the right one came up (thanks to Tomo who put me in touch) Grew X Kelpie/Collie.

 

I have no interest in anything other than rabbiting and this little bitch suits me just fine.

After playing with a machine gun for a wee while, nowt else compares lol that's why I wouldn't own a gun. That and I'd end up having to bury wife and tell kids she ran away with a darkie lol

Aye I played operation wolf a bit in the 80's down at the plaza amusements, but what about this darkie he's not the same one you were trying to rope in to carry your rabbits is he haha

This little lass could of been a specialist rabbit dog, all she's missing is 10" of height, more stamina, and bit of recall, other than that she does ok! At least she retrieves rabbits so that's a start!

I know we're in the lurcher section, so technically "rabbit specialist" should probably mean a dog that catches rabbits, but i think anything that's runner x base blood that puts rabbits in the bag one way or another qualifies for the name? My little bitch had 8 rabbits in about 6 mooches over a couple of weeks last year, i was over the moon with that, i suppose its all relative to what floats your boat, if that makes sense?

Been on here plenty but here's a few photos of my little 'rabbiting dog'. He's caught plenty of other things besides, but has done well on the rabbits up and down the country on all kinds of land. Mostly daytime, but taken some good hauls on the lamp to. He was the dog I owned when I was unemployed and spent most days travelling about the country with him and a few ferrets looking for bunnys to fill the freezer, couldn't have asked for a better companion. Doubt i'll ever have a dog quite like him, a pleasure to watch hunt and run, prey drive through the roof and turned on a six pence. Before he buggered himself i'd have said that if he turned it on the lamp it was mostly dead. We shall see what the future holds for him. . . . watch this space. . .and here's hoping a couple of his offspring do him proud
