neil cooney 10,416
Watch the whole vid. The owner was moose hunting and scared the wolves away and actually got the dog to the vet who saved it. The dog was wearing a vest, which saved it. My own opinion after watching it was that wolves are curs.

kanny 20,611
That's a hard watch ...by our standard yes there curs but there a wild animal it's a different set of rules they can't afford to take on injuries so they wear there prey down before going for the kill I don't think you can make comparisons to domesticated purpose bread animals ...If they wasn't disturbed then the dog would be dead and result for the wolf's regardless of how hard or not they are...would i want them released here? In theory yes but I'm not convinced it would work practically.
General lee 979
This is what I say all the time about wolfs and big cats when people say they would just destroy a dog they aren't a brave animal they will give up the fight when it isn't going there way if that was a bull breed or one of those sheep protectors that would have took the fight to those wolfs the wolfs would have run

It'd be a different story if the dogs actually attacked the wolves though.

unlacedgecko 1,466
Couldn't watch the whole vid. That's really nasty. In the U.S. They have a massive problem with wolves eating hounds. And stock. So much so, that recently the grey wolf had hunting restrictions lifted, and several hundred were killed. The MacKenzie Valley wolf (the one re-released in the lower 48) was not the wolf which was driven to extinction there. It is much larger and more aggressive. We're wolves ever re-introduced into the UK we would face similar problems, only much worse with our small overpopulated island. Anyone who thinks wolves for the UK are a good idea wants their head examining...

It'd be a different story if the dogs actually attacked the wolves though. I think you're wrong. In the story below wolves attacked a group of 4 bear hounds. 2 were killed immediately (and partially eaten). The other 2 managed to somehow escape, although one nearly froze to death in a river doing so. It's not that wolves are lacking in bravery, but as a wild animal they have a healthy self preservation instinct, as a wounded wolf which cannot hunt will starve to death. The thread below shows Serbian pit bulls and Turkish kangals being eaten by wolves. These are European wolves, so a bit smaller that the North American timber wolf, but still plenty big enough. WARNING GRAPHIC PHOTOS http://carnivoraforum.com/topic/10039802/1/ That said, they are quite happy to fight to the death for territory or breeding rights amongst their own kind. You know the leading cause of death for wolves in Yellowstone park? Other wolves.
ryaldinhio 4,603
its nature. they are after a meal. no they shouldnt be released here. we are too densley populated on such a small island to start releasing animals which may have been wild hundreds or thousands of years ago. there is a reason why they are extinct, presumably they were killing livestock so were hunted?
