bob84 189
I was up with my grandad last night as always it came around dogs. He was saying he started with a greyhound his mother had for flapping.I think he said that the track was where burton Albion stadium is now or around their I'm not to sure. Anyhow he said it could do most thing to put food on the table and win a few pound now and again . He said that nearly all houses had a hound of some sort. And there was no kennels the dog was in a shed and went where it wanted till it was need.if he was going lamping or off hunting there was always someone else dogs tagging along too.and know one batted an eye lid of a gang of kids with dogs unless it was the local keeper or estate owner. Nowadays if a dogs seen roaming around someone ring the dog pound.if a gang of kid are seen with dogs it's always their up to no good . And he always says that lamping is a young mans game. I'd sit and listen to old stories all day and night.sorry for rambling on . Board in work 5 Quote Link to post

Lenmcharristar 9,798
It shows how useless and lazy we as hunters have been, to sit with the blinkers on and say it's not my problem someone else will sort it. All the time these anti gurns, unwashed hippy bums have been let run riot within the media and portray us as criminals, and what's te old saying? Prevention being better than cure. It's such a shame that these anti everything thugs have had they're own way they're not animal lovers they're people haters. The modern uk us so far down the sewers it's floats below the rats ball bags. We're run by a bunch of cowards and Facebook, how sad is that? The www has given a voice to these heathens at every turn they get to protest and threaten, intimidate unchecked. Let's just hope the next super power sorts out the natural order again, here's hoping lol 5 Quote Link to post

Board in work Its was still like that around the South Yorkshire villages untill the pits shut around 1990, most men that worked underground spent there spare time walking the fields with a dog or two, my hound used to sleep in the outside toilet and provided many a good meal, Hares mainly, no Helicopters and very few mobile phones to worry about, we had the best of days. 2 Quote Link to post
keepitcovert 842
I remember lugging a car battery round in an ex army bag, chrome car spotlight for a lamp, it was bloody hard work youd end up sweating like a pig after an hour of that. Also remember walking down the street with a 12 bore so long as the barrels were broke police didnt bother you, christ today youd have a chopper over your head and red dots all over you, good days. before everyone became a self appointed keeper, 4 Quote Link to post

Board in work Just through interest what was grandads lamping set up? as opposed to days technology etc. i aint that old but i started with my dads lr6 and a 12volt motorbike battery in a little wooden box. the battery had a matchstick broken off in the breather hole on the side of the battery to stop the acid pissing out when you were getting over fences. the handle on the lamp was made from a piece of copper pipe with a micro switch tapped to it. i can always remember the lampers coming to our house with holes burnt in there jackets and jumpers from the acid that spilt out of the batteries. 3 Quote Link to post
