Heron Catching Moles

Recommended Posts

Couldn't believe my eyes yesterday but I arrived at a farm to get a few traps down and saw a heron standing by a run of mole hills that I'd planned to work. I watched it for a few minutes and then saw it strike down to grab one that must have been lifting. b*****d beat me to it. After a bit of a flick it was down the hatch.

Can't make up my mind on whether to be happy for the free labour or cross for the competition!

slightly off topic but!....mole catchers (myself included) blame the tinterweb and all its relevant information as being a potential downfall of traditional mole catchers, the theory being any one can read a few pages of information or watch a few videos and become a mole catcher...

now i propose we put this to the test..ile send you 2 traps one "duffus" type and one or my home made type traps....and you set about catching a mole or moles with nothing but information you can get off the internet and let us know how it goes...complete with wright-up and pictures

Ahh, now this is a good experiment, as although i could gain information of the net, i have not enough 'lone' interest (or need) to do it. With anything like this, I would only do it by learning direct, from someone who knows the score but for this, i'd have a go. ;)

If he's got a taste for them hopefully I'll see him waiting again, ill put the camera in the truck next time although I reckon he'll have more patience than me.

Yeah, recon he's probably a frequent visitor to that spot to dine on moles! Best option would be a trail cam setup close to the hills, if that's possible!
