shootinj 0
On a new/used air rifle. Recently been given a crosman 2240 and a SMK rifle (not sure of model) by my grandfather but fancy getting a rifle of my own as the SMK is pump action and it does my head in to be honest. I was thinking about going to a local gun shop and trying/handling some and then perhaps looking online? It's the first rifle I will have bought but I've done a little bit of shooting over the years, just got a bit of a buzz back. I've got a real long and thin back garden so it's pretty perfect for a plink. http://www.for-sale.co.uk/air-rifle Been looking on this site and found some good stuff.. I think! leeren666 10
The 2240's are a handy little thing that can be modified and tuned quite easily so you could go down that route, otherwise I am sure someone will be along with something second hand for a good price for you, make sure you have a good backstop if plinking in the garden though, good luck with the search ! Coypu Hunter 486
£150 will get you something new but of average quality, or something decent second-hand. One alternative to the second-hand route would be a Chinese gun, like the SMKs sold by Welsh Willy -- but you'll still need to add a scope and mounts. Or there's the Hatsan 60S, which is a nice little full-power shooter with an adjustable trigger. Have a look here and scroll through the different pages at the bottom. http://woodfield-gcp.co.uk/?product_cat=air-rifles Before you take the plunge, join a local club if you can. You may be able to borrow different rifles, and you'll be surprised how many airgunners will be happy to let you try out their rifles. You'll soon form an opinion of what you like and don't like. 3 Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
For that money if you want new, get a Remington express xp in .177, they are a quality thing, nice two stage trigger, decent scope, silencer, and pretty much full legal power out of the box, a tune would refine one into a very smooth operator indeed, all that for around £150 no brainer if you want the piece of mind buying new brings. mark williams 7,550
Welcome to the forum Shootinj The old saying "buy cheap, buy twice"- keep that in mind when looking for a set up for £150. The lads are doing their best to point out the best options with " your budget at the moment", carry on as you are and save up to around £300 or more, that will open a lot more doors for you and put some real quality rifles within your reach. atb ( all the best) 2 Quote Link to post
VWman 232
Hello there I think £150 is the magic number that every one who posts to get started uses. It's a fair amount of cash when you look at it but IMO it's not enough as you will come to find out in the fullness of time but don't be insulted by my comment as I thought that when I first came back to it. good luck getting started. mattybugeye 884
It is hard when you start out when you really want to get something for around your budget don't get me wrong there is rifles out there for the 150 mark but I think they will disappoint you and struggle getting consistent groups and make you wonder weather to use on vermin (if that's what your wanting to do) I would recommend hanging in and having a really good look around possibly trying to get another 50 quid together and look for a decent used rifle Hw older Bsa aa etc they can be found not easily but they are there for 180-200 and the results from it will be 10 fold better than a new budget rifle and will out last them too I had a old Bsa Mercury about 15 years ago was outstanding accurate granted was never out of my hands was using it every weekend but I kid you not could hit a .22 pellet off a fence post at 20 yd nothing to today's standards from pcp and Spring Guns but for a old at the time cheap gun was impressive all I'm saying is go for a older 2nd hand sure will be much better for you Atb Matt 5 Quote Link to post

Zimpara 99
Some great advice here. I would echo what others have said. I'm just about stepping up to a TX200 after getting started with a £200 rifle with a really poor trigger and a scope that comes out of zero daily. Grr Save your pennies and buy right first time around :-) Quote Link to post
shootinj 0
Yep, I'm still deciding... Think you might be right mate Quote Link to post
VWman 232
Don't rush in, I used a really old HW97 from a friend for ages and I went to every shop in my area and tried out all my short list which was aa pro sport, TX, 97 77 95 99 and ended up with a 77k ,95k, 98 sfs, and a 100, think my next one may be an IMP. I thought £150 would get me away but am well past that now LOL. 1 Quote Link to post
