Preventing Poaching In The Uk

Recommended Posts

Got agree with katchum, whats the point roosting birds. Loads of hadsle for little return; I would say probably the easiest way to get a few bird would be to drive around in the day and just knock em over. Recon just after release you could get ten in as many minutes - no risk of a poaching charge then

just after release?

why would you poach 6 week old birds?

why   exsactly...a keeper is worth one thing....his birds.... the second he falls below standard with his birds he WILL be in the firing line..what if he has wife and bairns? what happens if your c

speaking from both sides of the law having been a gamekeeper whos estate prosecuted for poaching and having been prosecuted for poaching.....THL is NOT the place to get sound advice about this topic

Wild??? Pheasants??? Deer parks? Etc.   Big difference between poaching some bunnys etc and a lot of other stuff, some poaching does basically involve robbing someones stock, taking their assets et

I find this thread literally incredible. Advocation of theft and general lawlessness, threats to individuals by trade if not name, cowardly (numbers superiority) attacks recommended on individuals.

Maybe its just a lot of bravado, I would hope so, since otherwise it is actionable. I suggest any moderators might want to issue a few warnings as clearly some of this thread is abusive and illegal.

Land is owned, wildlife is not, if, to get to wildlife you have to enter property owned by another its illegla and these rantings are as bad as the man traps that used to be employed to catch poachers. Grow up.

trespass is only a civil matter, if your on a public road or footpath it's not even trespass

Trespass with a firearm or "in pursuit of game" is not civil law its criminal - I suggest you look it up. Poaching in the terms mentioned in this thread, even with a catapult puts you at risk. I dont think its romantic to advocate violence in any form and trying to excuse trespass as a civil offence when one goes armed in pursuit of game is silly but then a lot of this thread is.

Realistically the only thing that stops poachers is being there, all times of day and night and disrupting them.

Night vision, thermal and lamps all play the part and if you make it so that the lads can't have a peaceful night then they will move on and annoy someone else!

There wont be a product that will really help, trail cams so but they aren't much of a deterrent.

Get out there and have a jolly old time chasing them over the fields!

there is a place not far from me as many rabbits as any were if been but like you sed it's the keepers constantly out looking giving lads hassle that stops them if found them grouse keepers are the keenest ,them pheasant keepers are just fat chicken farmers lol

how do they own the land, because they bought it from someone who bought it from someone etc, etc, etc who originally either drove off any inhabitants who hunted it and worked it or claimed it as theirs and all the creatures there in.Basically it was stolen away from the common man who then stopped being self sufficient and became a serf at the owners bidding.often not being allowed to hunt.

Any thoughts anyone

Thank god I stumbled across this thread, that post is absolute comedy gold!

Are you being sarcastic or pretending to be dumb?

"how do they own the land, because they bought it from someone who bought it from someone etc, etc, etc"

Thats your justification for stealing?

People own land the same way as they own houses you plonker!

Shall I walk into your house, just because you brought it off someone who brought it off someone who brought it off someone etc etc etc?

I'll help myself to your flatscreen TV as well! :haha:

because the land your house was built on once belonged to the "common man"

Honestly, my sides are in orbit!

Dear oh dear a towny trying to help gamekeepers yet just like the sabs clearly knows nothing about the countryside, country pursuits and how anything works in the countryside, I have permission to go and plenty at that but for ten years I didn't do you think I was going to give up what I loved doing (being out with my dogs) because no farmer landowner or gamekeeper would give me permission? Ofcourse not even right from a young age I would politely ask if I could have permission to run a couple of rabbits with my dogs, they always said no and I always ignored them you have to look after number 1 I'm afraid, now I'm not suggesting for a minute poaching should be made legal but what I am saying is no matter what method you come up with your not going to stop poachers that's part and parcel of being a gamekeeper I'm afraid it's not just foxes you need to watch out for

Bravado and bullshit in spades... Almost like watching reality TV when someone's making a total prick out themselves and doesn't realise it. Some of the replies on here are embarrassing to read.

If this lad can find a way to help the true custodians of the countryside preserve it and keep at bay the selfish, theiving pricks that rob their 'sport' and are too lazy to earn it he's got my full support. When poachers guns / vehicles are seized and their dogs destroyed maybe the penny will drop and they'll realise that actions have consequences.

We'll see how tough they all talk then.

      Hi!
I am looking to collect some game feathers from local shoots (Oxfordshire) for crafting purposes.
I know eBay and other sites sell them but not in the quantity I need.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
I am willing to go and pick them up.
      Many Thanks!

I found. Two dead poults near two different drinkers.  There was a little bit of blood on a feeder near on of them. Both show no signs of be predated upon  no sign of disease. No discharge nothing the waters where cleaned two days ago but these are the first dead birds I have found in the pen. Usually I'd take them to the vet to get checked but the boss doesn't wanna do that  so are there any other signs that could point to a disease ect ??

      Hello

My name is Paul, i am 20 years old and i am from Grimsby in Lincolnshire.

I have recently had an interview for a Gamekeeping Apprenticeship at Bishop Burton college in Yorkshire and I have been offered a place so long as i can find employment but being in the north east Lincolnshire area Gamekeepers seem to be few and far between, i have contacted the major local estate (brocklesby estate which is owned by the Earl of Yarborough) and some smaller estates ran by farmers and the only replies i seem to be getting are "we aren't looking to employ anyone else" which is fair enough but also rather disappointing but hey, what can you do.

I am posting here to see if there are any people out there that may know someone that could take me on or actually take me on themselves in or around the Grimsby area?(30 mile radius)

      I have experience in:

      - organised shoots as I was a beater at my local shoot (no gamekeeper, it is ran by volunteers)

      - pest control as I often shoot pigeons and rabbits for the local farmer.

      - Handling rifles and shotguns

I can drive so transport is no problem. I am looking to work within a 25-30 mile radius of Grimsby.

The employer has a possibility of gaining a £1500 grant if they take me on which is provided by the college (the government have the final say however as it goes through them + Terms and conditions apply)

I am willing to do trial runs

I can do voluntary work to gain experience.

If there is anyone out there that will be able to help me it would be more than appreciated.

If anyone has any offers or information then please contact me via my email - Pldiplock@gmail.com

This is one of the latest films i did for angus moorland group. We tried to show in the film the education behind gamekeeping and the young people that want to become gamekeepers and what drives them. Let me know what you think. Very excited to be making more of these throughout the year.
