Gaz_1989 9,539
Gaz i was meaning kennel dog in a proper kennel insulated draft free soft bedding and clean concrete run etc this is only way i would keep dogs in kennelsif it wasnt like that i wouldnt consider it a kennel . dogs would have feet soaked in warm water and all dryed be fed on return then kenneled for night morning little walk to slacken off then food back in kennel walked on night time or workedI guess we will never really know fella. If there is a difference I doubt it's a big enough difference to warrant changing how you do things. Just do what suits you have you ever had dog in kennel gaz? Yes. Why? Had both house dogs and kennel dogs. Got both now. Quote Link to post

TOMO 26,175
Obviously it doesn't matter to there working ability ,,weather they live in or out... I won't have a dog in the house whilst I have young children in here,,, even though my dogs are great with the kids,,, it only takes one minor incident,,, and you could have a dead child.... Ive said it many times on here,,, but at the risk of repeating myself,,,,, your average lurcher is 50lb of muscle and teeth,,, and babys and young children are defence less to a such a creature 8 Quote Link to post

Phil Lloyd 10,738
I like to have my dogs around me whenever I can,...obviously not when they have just rolled in Badger Shit ! Dogs need their own space,...they need to have time on their own.... But,..keeping them in the manner of a pet/companion does not seem to affect their ability to hunt, catch (and if required), to kill... No set rules with lurchers Edited October 21, 2015 by Phil Lloyd 4 Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
Ive got a good set of kennels in the garden, and I live on my own, no mrs living here and no kids. Ive one dog who lives in all the time, but used to be a kennel dog. To be honest he was a hard dog to build a bond with and after having an accident and coming in for a few months, we built an unreal bond and he became a more useful worker for it. He has lived in the house for a few years now and his prey drive is as unreal (and annoying at times) as ever. Its also useful having a guard dog. . . . no one gets though the door without him going mad. The other dogs are sometimes in the house, in the evening or day, and sometimes sleep in. They would all prefer to sleep in the house, but when it gets hot are soon scrabbling for the kennel. They like it just as much out there, after hunting its good to be able to stick them in a kennel in their own space, especially if sore. They get cleaned up and rubbed down either way. Having a kennel full of dogs in the garden is also handy, because if anyone comes anywhere near the yard, they go mad and wake everyone up. I also think its important to be able to get them in and have them sleep in, because when I go away hunting, the may have to stay in someones house, or a motor, or in a tent with me etc. I think there are far far more things likely to f**k a dog up than living in a house! And most of that either happens in their own genetics or out with you in the field. On a side note, I like dogs, thats why I keep them. . . . and thats why I like having them around me in the house. 11 Quote Link to post

Red Center 165
I bring em inside over night but that's mainly to stop them barking at the wildlife all night long. And also because of thieving cnuts running a dog fighting ring in my town stealing peoples dogs from their yard. I was raised no dogs in the house full stop but I don't mind it provided they aren't all over you the whole time Quote Link to post
nothernlite 18,085
Dogs will adapt and do to any circumstances in out tent car car van as long as thete fed and watered think you can get more of a bond with a dog indoors 2 Quote Link to post
