FUJI 17,212
We are only just over a week away from NOVEMBER yet the foliage on the trees has barely turned from green, the ground is iron hard, spring flowers are in bloom, there are tiny rabbits on the ground, leverets too..seen two roe deer last week in the same field, one which was a doe in its summer coat yet its male counterpart was in his winter wear! I gave the dog some hammer this past week, you just have to get out and go or sit and wait but until when? Being honest the rock hard ground didn't suit my big fella,he did "graze" his stoppers lol but it were nowt to bother about imo so we kept rolling on..we need a deluge of rain to soften up the dry arrid land and give the dogs an element of safety at least for their feet..just make good of what you can until the heavens open because no doubt when they do it will forget to stop lol 16 Quote Link to post

FUJI 17,212
Yeah I know what you mean Jim,even the fields with a good covering of grass are not ideal but if we wrapped our mutts up in cotton wool waiting for ideal conditions we wouldn't get much hunting done .. 2 Quote Link to post
Omanyra 2,518
Now there's a term that I've used in the past, and ran dogs on.... Not the best though 1 Quote Link to post
jmilam08 193
Ferreted a hedgerow farmer had cut week before all nice and clear and has fresh nettle and weed growth like spring. Digging for baby rabbits form the off and nets slipped by not even half grown rabbits. Think that's us for another month at least. 1 Quote Link to post
low plains drifter 10,415
Forget about the hunting for now mate, still time to sport the bermuda shorts, hawaiin shirt and sockless crocks and get out for a good old mince round the windy fells with the pack and enjoy what's left of this indian summer 2 Quote Link to post

Bosun11 537
A lot of fields here have been turned and seeded, the dry weather has left em almost powdery, so not a problem on these. I'm just wanting rain to feed the little stream in front of my house. So many critters depend on it, especially them sticklebacks which i enjoy watching, dry weather puts em on a knife edge. Cheers, D. 1 Quote Link to post
