dankay123 33
Collected them today. Oak, silver birch and think alder. Would these make suitable blanks for carving. Forks are straight and similar thickness. Edited October 18, 2015 by dankay123
Truther 1,579
They look ok mate, just a bit of evening out and they'll be sound, its a bit of a pain drying them properly, or the waiting is, but you've got to dry them properly, birch dries pretty quick, but you need to give it a good coat of oil, varnish or whatever to seal it well, oak is bad for splitting while drying if you put it somewhere to warm, alder dries quick, coat the cut ends in wax, just melt some in a tuna tin and dip them in it until its sealed, stops most of the splitting, give it a month or so and take the bark of, leaving the ends coated, usually works for me.
