Land rover Defender 90

Recommended Posts

not bad motors mate really. not the quickest but plenty of torque pull out with them (pulled 7 and half ton wagons with one.) i think the really early ones wernt power steering not sure on that though. if your over 10 stone you'll have to drive round with the window open to get comfy not a lot of room on your right in them. but if you want a simple cheap to run cheap to repair motor there ideal.

does anyone here own one and if so just wonderd how they run and the genral all round performence becase im think about getting one at 17 lol are the power assisted and warm inside lmao
iv had land rovers for 20 years they are not warm inside not comfortable. they do the job that others cant . easy to repair. power assisted steering can be added to the old models. all the armed forces, all the emergency services use them so they must have somthing to offer.

They are noisy, uncomfortable, rattle, f*****g hopeless handling on the road, slow, thirsty, very basic and very expensive for what they are.

On the plus side they have lots of torque, are one of, if not the best off road vehicle you can buy, easy to repair (loads of third party parts available), go on forever, hold their value and look the part!

Don't rule out the 110.

The latest version looks like a real tarts motor inside!

If you spend a LOT of time off road well worthy of consideration...If you intend to spend most of your life ON Road, forget them!

I have a mate, recently bought a new 110. Big improvement over the last one (he still did 157000 in about 6 years). It has very comfy seats, a Transit TD engine with 6-speed box. No probs yet,it's done 5000 miles now. He did say he'd have to take it back to see why it didn't let in as much rainwater as it should!!

yes they are not best on road but i have owned loads of them tryed other 4x4 but they seem the best off road get lots of cheap bits of the net basic rim cost about 40 quid with tyre engine bits are cheap to if you but by off net there is really no cheaper go any where 4x4 for parts they are tried and tested if you buy one go for tdi 300 engine got power steering and easy to fix had my current one for 3yrs it is now 11yrs old and still going strong only big repairs i have had is clutch and new water pump and is used off road ever day also you can get them rechassis so they will last for ever if you go for a 90 defender the short wheel base better turning circle than your hiluxs and L200 that makes for better turning on very narrow roads but best bet is for you to try 4x4 you think you like and choose what suits you

of road? OFF Road?

There is no answer to that because of variations of country and terrain but the Defender would come very near, or at the top of many peoples list..........strange though it may sound, a Jeep Cherokee jacked up and with the right boots on is also excellent (not enough clearance as supplied)

Get yourself a hi lux mate. I use toyota's and land rovers for work, much prefer the toyota miles better on road, hell of alot more comfortable and its gone everywhere the land rover has. Joe :D

you can make the defenders just as comfortable if you get the right springs but this does affect off road performace a little but i do agree with you toyota would be best all rounder but if you spend a bit on right mods for defender off road not much will compete with it both are very good i find the toyota pick up types little tail light and not as nibble as little 90 though but dont think the lad can go wrong with anyone of them both great motors for offroad
