Is that liquor stuff eel juice .........

Don't know what it is now but yes, it was originally made from the stock of stewed eels. Back in the 60's, if my mother or nan dragged us shopping at Woolwich or Deptford, we always had to have pie and mash with liquor, and they would also have some stewed eels. Actually, the liquor IMO was the best part of it, couldn't stand the pies with the hard tasteless pastry crust and the rubbery mince filling complimented by lumpy mash containing so many 'eyes' it used to stare at you.

Don't get me wrong, I love pies and I love mash, but homemade only, won't eat commercially produced pies, nor sausages or burgers come to that.
