The Japanese Akita was kept as a general purpose farm dog, did a bit of guarding a bit of hunting etc. The American Akita comes from Jap Akitas brought back by G.Is after WW2 and mixed with all sorts of other breeds (GSDs, Rottis etc). The American usually has more of a solid, guardian temperament and the Japs are really weird, aloof dogs, a very primitive breed similar to the other Asian Spitz type breeds.

Personally I wouldn't own either of them, even the more solid American type are still unpredictable b*****ds that will be fine one minute and hanging off your face the next

I don't trust the sneaky cnuts

Well try not shitting in farmers hedges then.

One thing they certainly will be good at, converting large amounts of dog food into excrement.

I nearly bought one years ago,got talking to couple owners ,and every male they knew been castrated by age of 3 to try and calm it down, all had the look as mentioned just watching you and waiting, so I didn't bother

To go off topic I quite look of the smaller spitz breeds like the shiba inu.

well, my mate use to have one and it was a beautiful dog, friendly with people and friendly with other dogs, we use to take him beach fishing with us and he was no both at all, to us or the other fisherman, he would just sit there watching and waiting for the fish to be caught, he didn't have any health issues, i would say he was quite a hardy dog out in all weathers, his neighbour use to have four bloody noisy jack Russells, and his dog didn't even murmur when they kicked off, but unfortunately he had to be put to sleep three years ago now, due to old age,and strangely enough yesterday he said he was looking to get another one, but speak as i find he was a very good friendly dog and a pleasure to be around, that's why i was really shocked to hear other peoples views about the breed, maybe he got lucky with a good one?, but it does seem strange that all the others are bad?, or maybe it takes a stronger type of training of this breed? just like the bull breeds need to be firmer trained,

saying that, every dog he has had has always been very well behaved, and controlled, what ever the type of breed,

I suppose alot of it depends on the breeding and up bringing surely? I mean there is a difference between a pitbull and a game bred pitbull. Even then ive seen game bred pitbulls friendly with other dogs. Just sounds abit like the pitbull in that its not a dog for everyone. Wouldnt write off a breed based just on what breed it is.

My opinion would be there's lot of scatter bred shite out there and I suppose it's trying to find the right one,and then whether it's still ok 18 -36 months down the line, especially if the parents was young when litter was bred.

But then again there's people out there that do get best out their dogs ,seen people with huskies off lead and good recalls.

I read a book about them, apparently they were a hardy farm dog traditionally used in the mountain areas in Japan and were even used to hunt bears. They were nearly extinct after ww2 but then became all the rage with the Americans and in Japan with dogs becoming national celebrities and people even making fortunes selling pups and that is exactly the time things went to sh!t with the breed. Good luck trying to find a good one now...

I don't trust the sneaky cnuts

Lol why not it's how they are trained my friend has Akita x malamute and that dog is not a dog ild like to meet anywhere to be honest

My mate had one I was with that dog nearly every day since it was a pup and every time me or someone was around that dog he would just stare at you waiting for you to do something wrong you could tell he wanted to bite someone. A coal yard up the road from me had them and some crossed with Rottweilers they were the most aggressive dogs I ever seen thank fook they never got a hold of anyone they definitely would of killed them

My wife has been telling me for several months about a dog which lives near my mother-in-law which she claimed was the spitting image of my kelpie, Noggin. I finally met the dog in question a couple of weeks ago and, while it's taller and more solid, it did look remarkably similar to Noggin's sire. When I asked the bloke what it was he said it was a first cross Akita/Rottweiler. Incidentally, it had a lovely calm character and allowed itself to be handled without any qualms. I wish I'd taken a photo now.

Those huskys seem to be popular at the minute. There is 4 who live near me, 3 now the chinese kid moved. All lovely apart from one whos dog will take liberties, could be the owner though. Chinese kids pups playing and a staff put it on her back, bloke goes "cant believe your ones dominated by a staff mine would never have that shed rather kill a staff". LOL f**k off you small dick prat its a bloody kids pup n another dog playing why even come out with such bollocks.

Gonna have my eyes open next year not for akitas but shows with presas. Seems another breed with good n bad examples. Never seen one in the flesh so just wanna have a look at em.

Honestly I could see the Rottweiler blood making it steadier, they're pretty steady dogs if they're raised right.

The problem with Akitas is they're a primitive breed and most don't know how to handle them, similar to Salukis but it's a much bigger deal when your 100lb psycho Akita decides it can't be fecked listening today

There's a famous akita called Hachiko, even made a film about the dog.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hachik%C5%8D

In 1924, Hidesaburō Ueno, a professor in the agriculture department at the University of Tokyo, took Hachikō, a golden brown Akita, as a pet. During his owner's life, Hachikō greeted him at the end of each day at the nearby Shibuya Station. The pair continued their daily routine until May 1925, when Professor Ueno did not return. The professor had suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and died, never returning to the train station where Hachikō was waiting. Each day for the next nine years, nine months and fifteen days, Hachikō awaited Ueno's return, appearing precisely when the train was due at the station.

The dog died still waiting for it's master.

One of the steadiest dogs I ever knew was a rottie called Rommell

Mate of mine had an Akita and it was a real weird cnut to be around. There was always a thought in the back of your mind not to take your eye off him.

The only time I thought I was gonna get properly nailed was on a job fitting blinds in some old blokes house. He had two if them locked in the kitchen. Well of course they escaped and made a feckin beeline for me in the front room... Never seen an old boy move so fast to grab them. I tell you they weren't for listening to commands and I'd say the bitch was the worst lol I opened the window and escaped then made him lock the fuuckers out back before going back in
