Unless theyre kept in damp conditions no way. Its not even cold yet anyway.

So then ....now we no the scientific facts about the temperature above and below ground ....does anyone no why this poor feckers ferrets av died

My ferrets often fall in the mop bucket full of water out the back. Still not cold enough to kill them even with a wee dip. I dont dry mine off they dry themselves. I say the hutch hasnt been clean enough to lose both at the same time. Picked up a virus or bacteria from somewhere. But im only geussing.

Mine are out rain or shine snow or frost and couldnt be happyier. All thats needed is a good bed area for them. I have been abit soft on them this year and given them a old pillow the mrs was going to throw out that they have now turned into a nest/tent.

Ferrets are hardy. Drafts can be a problem.

I'd agree with the guys that say a warrens warmer in winter and cooler in summer compared to above ground.

he dropped the ferret in the water

A cold soaking then a bit of cold wind may have caused it to loose too much heat. But generally seems strange.

so where exactly does this warmth in winter and cooler in summer come from when its cold in winter and warm if not hotter in summer?

Soil and rock takes a longer time to change temperature than the air above. It doesnt fluctuate as quickly. The insulation effect underground retains heat from previous days or even seasons therefore is more constant/stable. This is especially true at depths of over four feet.
