What Was That?

i was out couple days go early evening just mooching through a wood i could just see one the dogs through the cover mark a pile of old branches before going in,something shot out the other side and as he gave chase i lost sight of it as the cover just to thick,within few seconds he was doubling back and forth obviously un sighted what ever it was and lost it but i was still running to the direction id seen it take off in,well if i had to put my hand on my heart and part with a few quid id have to say it was a SKUNK,a very quick fleeting glance was all i got,maybe a black and white cat but the tail was all wrong and so was its gait, but couldnt think of anything else,

who knows but i wasnt stoned for a change lol,do skunks take to trees when under threat?

Stood on a curlew once when I was out lamping, couldnt get the smell of keech out of my breeks for weeks....what a noise they make....

Following on to the thread about strange things you see when out lamping, we saw something really strange the other night This isn't a trick question. Neither of us have a clue what it could be.

 

We were on a golf course and this thing ran across the whole width of the fairway in front of us. My mate had the lamp on it for the whole time and it was about 60-70 yards in front of us. We both described exactly the same thing.

 

I can only describe it as ferret-like. It was a very light brown colour, almost beige. Very small head in relation to its body, very short legs and a long tail. The trouble with this ID is it was huge. At least the length of a full grown fox.

 

Any ideas?

 

I saw something very similar a few weeks ago. The image wasn't brilliant but clear enough to see it was small fox size but the head and gait was Stoatlike. There were a few bushes in front of it but I watched it long enough to be very confused.

I see you're from Kent. When I saw this, I was right on the borders of Surrey and Kent. So it's agreed then. The Beast of Kent.

Sure I remember hearing about pet Skunks being released into the wild. They were quite popular a few years back and you know what numpties that get pets like that are like..

Skunks are obvious ,you cant mistake what's skunk is,plus there's no mistaking the black n white markings .

Honestly wouldn't be surprised at all if there's a few skunks knocking about the countryside, there's feral raccoons in the country and a lot more skunks were kept as pets than raccoons

Had one as pet few year ago,once you know how they move ,you recognise one straight away. Stiff legged gait ,like a mini wolverine ,lol

They're cute little critters I knew a girl with one and I was really taken with it, thought about having one myself but I didn't think it'd work out too well with the dogs You can get them in all sorts of colour mutations these days some of them look really smart.

I would probably love this if I knew what "keech" meant. I did laugh at the possibilities though.
