fireman 10,917
Could have picked up a leveret that would have sat on one hand with ease yesterday and saw a good 1/2 dozen others the size of rabbits on our local shoot,i sure won't be shooting and retrieving any till well after xmas but i'm sure others will before hand.Just a heads up on over estimating your dogs at this time of year as some are still caring for young in Norfolk ... 6 Quote Link to post
jukel123 8,084
I agree there's no sport in killing leverets. There's nothing easier to kill or catch. Surprising how often you find leverets at strange times of the year. Quote Link to post

Giro 2,648
I've not seen any but plenty of milky rabbits and half grown ones kicking about.. Its unsporting to slip on young game but when hunting up that decision is taking out of your hands.. 1 Quote Link to post
Bosun11 537
I see em round here most days. Gotta be sharp or my youngster will shoot one and i'd rather he shot em when they are bigger. Quote Link to post

I was saying in a long winded way,it's sometimes best off leaving all of them alone till later in the year or till next year even due to the young un's needing the old un's still.Just because it's a adult don't mean it hasn't got young still and i was watching hares box out the back of my village on Boxing day last year and before new years day the year before,so even a few january hares are carrying young these years.. Still pigeons nesting in some trees still round me as well.... 1 Quote Link to post

Its often nothing to do with the mutts ability in the field, the season starts the seasons end when things breed and are are not yet ready to gain fair grace or favour,if we waited for "all" the right times to run our mutts with honesty and compassion, they would spend 9 months of the year awaiting our conscience,s.A dog using its nose will hunt whats about,in season,as the mutt suffers less from its conscience we as owners may need to steer it at times, the nuggets that don,t ,ive little time for, again an hunting dog,in or out of season,as no conscience. 5 Quote Link to post
