That is one hell of a good set-up for bitch and pups :thumbs: The only thing I would do is to cover the bars in front of the whelping box to give the bitch more privacy. I have a vaguely similar set-up, and I always hang blankets over the bars in front of the bed, even if no other dogs are likely to go in the shed. Cuts any draughts too. I tie the blankets on to the outside of the bars: put them on the inside once and the bitch ripped them down to create even more bedding. Very young pups can get lost under a lot of bedding, and then squashed.

Use sheets of newspaper under towels for the actual whelping, then use Vetbed. Shredded newspaper is a pain. Tiny pups can get hidden in it and the bitch can't see them and is more likely to tread/lie on them. Get two pieces of Vetbed to fit the whelping box. Washes and dries very quickly. Use one at a time while the other is in the wash: you'll be changing them daily. Lay sheets of newspaper under the Vetbed, which allows liquid to pass through. Check for soggy newspaper every day for first week, then twice daily thereafter once pups start peeing for themselves.
