WILF 46,786
The shit of it is that it's just easier to say "No" for most farmers......in a similar position lots of us would be the same. Unless the farmer is an active follower of field sports then they are pretty much as clueless as anyone else when it comes to the dos and donts and will swallow whatever the law tell them chapter and verse. 1 Quote Link to post
bird 9,873
Some interesting thoughts. I think I must be soft, and no where near as 'hardcore' as the 'super hunters' on here. I quite like having permission, being able to turn up, park your motor somewhere sensible, have a good nights lamping without looking over your shoulder or getting it cut short. Its also quite nice being able to do some things which may not be sensible off permission at times. I also quite like being on good terms with the farmers and having them ring me to come out and sort a problem, or make me a cuppa. Its even quite nice when you find bottle of wine or whisky on the bonnet of the motor for doing a good job. But I guess i'm just a poof. . . . . . . . I have no issue with poaching, and obviously do / have done plenty, but the 'f**k the farmer' attitude, coupled with many dog men acting like total f***ing muppets, is what makes it so god damn hard to get permission to run a dog on. Friendly farmers are the one thing that keeps our sport going. Remember that since the ban, poaching rabbits is a 'take your dog, car, lamp and liberty' type offence unfortunately. Edited to add - It does make me laugh how much people on here think farmers are twats for telling them to get off THEIR land. Next time I fancy a night out, i'm coming round your house to chill in your garden, have a few beers and a smoke. . . . . . . might bring a few mates. Maybe even park the truck on your lawn. Obviously you won't mind, because i'm doing no harm, and if you do mind, you're a prick and i'll fight you. . . . . . For real? the only real thing that's changed jai, is the hunting ban with dogs, because most landowners didn't want you on the ground 50 years ago and they still don't now. most farmers /keepers think people who keep running dogs are travellers or poachers, and being honest when I started 30 years ago th e atuide of people is the same. I ve never argued or get macho if a farmer or keeper caught me, ive just said I was after few rabbits and before the ban foxes, I just carried on walking and say I am going and leave , don't_+ didn't want agro . but if they got heavy handed on me after I told them a iam leaving , well lets just say somebody going to get hurt if its me ok, but I try to make sure I wasn't the only one getting it. I be honest mate most land owners /keepers will let you control vermin foxes and rabbits on there ground as deff with foxes your making there job that bit more easier , but its with guns because like ive said before they know the gun does good job and they don't need running dogs all over there ground . where I lived before my wife brother in law was shooter pigeon etc and he said he get tons of permission where I lived if it was him , but I could never get to through to thick twat , that yes guns you would ,but not lurchers deff not lurchers I tried for 25 years knocking on doors and got a big no , so I stopped asking and just jumped over the fence , I though to my self I ether work me dog , or get me gun out 686 12g and use that , well I thought fook'em I work me dogs and have done for 30 years . I like lurchers there great type of dog great pets , and can have bit of sport / and few dinners from them , why should i or other people change to pacify other people farmers/keepers .!! be your own man legal or not 3 Quote Link to post

I agree with that other than the last bit,you shouldn't be going near any houses if you're poaching. Going on land someone owns is a different ball game than creeping around where they actually live and sleep. 1 Quote Link to post
