If like me,.you have had a life with lurchers,...you are sure to have come across a few, that were 'not fit for purpose'.... Some animals just don't have IT..   What you do with such animals,.. is a

I make absolutely no apology for saying this but if a dog bred for purpose does not fulfill that purpose IMO it should be PTS humanely. I would think 99% of dog men nowadays are not near as game as t

Thats what's wrong with the dog game..

Bob that reminds me of a 5 year old collie X greyhound I was gifted when I was young.

You know something, she thought me more about lamping than anything or anybody else. If a rabbit was un-catchable she wouldn't run it.

I seen her standing 15 foot looking at rabbits that were 6 foot from the hedge. But if there was one out from the hedge she'd usually catch it.

It was very frustrating for a 15 year old lad at the time but I know now that she knew the game better than me.

She was a good retriever but hard mouthed. Then one night in the dark with my battery dead she tangled with a badger.

When I got her home I realised she'd lost most of her teeth on one side of her mouth (bloody badger was OK though) and after that I'd have to leave the lamp on her when retrieving as the rabbit would slip out of her mouth and I'd have to lamp it again.

Folk often put a dog having common sense down to a lack of gameness, sometimes that's true, sometimes not.

I no ya I seen her running at full tilt along sheep fencing and still pull the rabbit true it and the next run would be half hearted or not run at all it was a killer knowing she could do it or if I only had her out knowing the one at home would give me everything she had 100% everytime I asked her but there was just something about her i like I think if she hadn't died she still be with me now

A tip for biking more safely. I always use two leads. One is hooked to it's own handle, making a circle that goes over my shoulder. This lead is looped through the handle of the second lead which is hooked to the dog collar. Hope that makes sense. If it doesn't I can put up a photo.

This leaves both hands free for steering/braking and if the dog pulls it's pulling against your whole body rather than your hand..

The only time I had trouble holding this way is when a fox jumped onto the road in front of my 29 inch, 37kilo deerhound cross.
