leethedog 3,071
I understand what you are getting at but the time is right for me now it's a gamble sure but when you have limited opportunity to acquire a pup some times you gotta take the risk I have access to the sire for working purposes only he currently lives on a car site as a barker Quote Link to post
Bosun11 537
An here's me thinking i was giving advice about choosing a puppy, when the real agenda was about it's parents... So let me put my two penneth worth on that subject also... If either parent is shite then all your doing is spreading shite. Sure you can produce a worker from onions but what about the rest and where does that leave the state of the working terrier world? Real working terriers are precious things, so make damn sure you dont feck that up!! Quote Link to post

MOLE265 792
So what about these jagd terriers diluting/ruining our working terriers that's the last thing I'm looking for a terrier that howls on scent and howls in kennels. Quote Link to post

Bosun11 537
The grass aint always greener. Some things sound better when folk crow about em. All most people need to do, be it terriers or lurchers, is just take the time to evaluate what you want your game to be and not just this season but say over the next ten.... Then when you've got a fair idea of that, find a type, line, strain that will do the job you want. Most importantly, when you've sorted both of the above out and this is the hard bit, think really hard about how to both preserve it and improve it. Simples!!! Quote Link to post

leethedog 3,071
Yeah my thoughts mate I've already got a unknown bred pup who is a bit indecisive but he is showing some good signs and is only 15 months Quote Link to post
neil cooney 10,416
Good advice Bosun. I always use this metaphor and don't apologize for using it again. If you got a gallon of ice cream and put one tea spoon of shit in it, stirred it all around, what have you got ? It ain't ice cream and would you chance a spoonful ? Breeding for work is the same. Put one teaspoon of shit in the mix and the shit will come out eventually. 7 Quote Link to post

roundmouth86 251
I usually go for the fattest dog pup or if I know the breeder well and rate the parents I'll have any ?, my current main worker was the last dog left and it was have him or have none so I chanced him and for 9 months all he did was walk round with his tail down , 3 months after and bang!!!! A worker , happy days 2 Quote Link to post
