Dog Vs Bitch?

Just reading through the topic on the Lurcher section and wondered what you lads work and why?

 

I have both in Kennels personally but only keep one dog on the yard. Rest are bitches.

Where do you turn too for your next worker if dogs are all you keep in your yard .I myself keep both as I see bitches just as if not more important than dogs . Jmho

I think it depends on how many you keep and what your goal is. Obviously if you want to keep a line going you have to have bitches. But if you just get out now and again and your not bothered about breeding then I can see the benefits of just keeping dogs.

I keep 3, as that is what i feel safe with having enough work for aswell as enough time for between a full time job and a young family.

Do you get much trouble with them fighting mate. Or do you think the absence of bitches keeps the peace?

Theyre kennelled seperately but when exercising i have no problems whatsoever. I get them from being young pups though so that could have something to do with it.

As an after thought i fancy getting a bitch next time i get one for a change lol

A lot of lads work their dogs hard but make a bit of an allowance for a bitch but I disagree with that.

IMO if you work your bitches as hard as you would a dog and keep a strong bitch line then your breeding will fall in place and it's not hard to find a good dog that will hopefully be compatible with your bitch when the time comes.

I agree with chilli and neil, I don't get the dogs better than bitches thing, a good bitch is as good as a good dog and you can breed from her, im three generations ahead in my head to whats in yard, its hard to get anywhere with dogs, you depend on people bringing bitches to you and getting a pup back.

I dont think dogs are or should be better than bitches, i just seem to click with them better. My digging partner is the total opposite and gets on better with bitches.

Its just personal preference.

I wouldn't fancy more then one dog on the yard with bitches around. Asking for trouble.

and when the bitches are in season I question why I bother keeping a dog because he is a nightmare.
