Recommended Posts

I lined 2 border terrier bitches stud was £100 or pick of litter at the time.1 lad twisted at price so told him I would have a bitch pup out of it,he said I can't promise you that as I want 1 and so did his dad but will give ya £50.any way there was a spare bitch me thinking give him his £50 back and I get pup or no he wanted £250 for it so I told him to stick it.mext one was a lad told him I wanted a pup line bitch a few times then never heard of him again, found out the bitch dropped 11 pups all sold for £350 on dodge papers, the same sly f****r is in darcys book as I found out when the pups were 6mths old.now I wont trust any body I bred some deerhoundxgreyhound back to whippet pips selling them for £50 and still had the greedy b*****ds wanting them for cheaper so not no more.its either pay the price or get ya self away in my eyes mate.

Got to be able to seperate the wheat from the chaff mate, too many desperados and hammerheads about

That seems to be the way of life now mate and I don't think it will change now.

I meant that there are no Doxhope litters, in the sense that they were not bred by us. Our last pure bred litter was before 2005, so any remaining dogs would be a fair age now. I saw an advert a yea

my pal bought a doxhope first x called him rab he was up in Northumberland ,he was 32 /33 ins that would of been about 2005 ,he ordered a pup for me and said she was a doxhope 3/4 bred 29 tts ,she was good on the rough ground on long ears and would cover the ground flat out were the saluki would break his neck but on crop fields she struggled with fast long ears and would rarely make a bend ,I have been very upset with this breed and like you say lowplainsdriffter since bill stopped breeding them things have never been the same ,lowplains remember when we knocked on bill to ask whats gan on with the breed and you told me then it was bills dad that knew his stuff ,maybe since then doxhope went down hill ,atb bobza

The Doxhope breeding was a success story because of 2 dedicated men one who knew the breeding game inside out and the other who put every opportunity infront of the hounds out on the land. A hard act to follow

Most certainly

Would the deerhound be more laid back then some of the other lurcher breeds I remember my grandads you wouldn't know she was there till u went to go lamping or a walking it was all go from then

In my limited experience, yes. My brindle bitch has got deerhound on both sides and is very laid back. Certainly the most laid back dog I've ever had. Apart from needing a piss or to eat and drink she would happily never get off the sofa. She doesn't care to go for a walk and would happily go days without leaving the house.

She does switch on when we are in the field. But only a bit. She is very lazy and is happier to walk to heel than to go off hunting up.

Obviously when she spots something it's game on. Same for lamping. But 99% of the time she is very lazy. Hard to get fit too. After 3 miles by the bike she's had enough and it becomes hard work getting her to keep up and do more.

My pup (bull/collie/wheaten/grey) is an absolute handful around the house. Never settles. Never stops for more than 5 minutes. Chews, jumps, digs and generally makes a nuisance of herself. But she is 100 times more switched on in the field and a pleasure to be out with. She will run for 8 mile by the bike and then still want to do more. She lives to be out hunting and you can see it's all she wants to do.

2 complete opposites. Pros and cons with both.
