What Is The Law?

Recommended Posts

Near where i shoot there's a small river and a decent sized pond, and they're both full of fish. The environment agency have built a dam here and so have fenced a large amount of land but it's still accessible ie gates, no signs up etc.

What is the law with me fishing on there? Would i need their permission and obviously a rod license? Can i just crack on considering it's 'public' land?

Full of brown trout!! Lol

It's likely to constitute trespass and poaching. Do you know who owns the land? If it was, me I'd ask around or perhaps even ask the EA. Funnily enough I have some land surrounded by an EA flood scheme and have a small bit of river running through it. We don't have any notices up, but it is private land and private fishing nonetheless. We don't get trouble with poaching touch wood, probably due to the location, but we do get know it all village townie dog walkers though!

Thanks for the replies lads. I've been over today and got permission from the EA bloke on site to fish it. They're doing work downstream so there's a security guard on 24/7 so not worth jumping fences.

Heading across tomorrow!
