RubyTex 1,957
Near where i shoot there's a small river and a decent sized pond, and they're both full of fish. The environment agency have built a dam here and so have fenced a large amount of land but it's still accessible ie gates, no signs up etc. What is the law with me fishing on there? Would i need their permission and obviously a rod license? Can i just crack on considering it's 'public' land? Full of brown trout!! Lol Quote Link to post
jocky 198
used to do allot of work for the EA. as long as you got a rod licence and dont do any damage to fencing ect you should be ok. its very rare they come round . Quote Link to post
neil cooney 10,416
The fact there's trout in there says to me that someone owns or has the fishing rights to it. If something seems to good to be true.................you know the rest. Quote Link to post
walshie 2,804
I wouldn't imagine the fact it doesn't say "no fishing" means the same as "please fish here." Quote Link to post
Lid 194
It's likely to constitute trespass and poaching. Do you know who owns the land? If it was, me I'd ask around or perhaps even ask the EA. Funnily enough I have some land surrounded by an EA flood scheme and have a small bit of river running through it. We don't have any notices up, but it is private land and private fishing nonetheless. We don't get trouble with poaching touch wood, probably due to the location, but we do get know it all village townie dog walkers though! Quote Link to post
RubyTex 1,957
Thanks for the replies lads. I've been over today and got permission from the EA bloke on site to fish it. They're doing work downstream so there's a security guard on 24/7 so not worth jumping fences. Heading across tomorrow! 2 Quote Link to post

bell 3,606
Brown trout season on most waters is up 1st October or thereabouts. Certainly on rivers, not sure about still waters. Sounds like the kind of place you won't get too many problems anyway. Stick some pics up. Quote Link to post
RubyTex 1,957
Haven't been over yet, been too busy. The banks are overgrown on the most part but i'll get in and get some pics when i do go. Quote Link to post
