jocky 198
Was going to take dog a walk about 11.00am this morning, so went for a piss first in the downstairs toilet. There is a small window in toilet that goes into the garage that wasopen, and why i was standing there pissing i could smell plastic burning. Went into garage and there were two demijohns that i had filled with water to clean them on the draining board. The sun was shinning through the garage window and through the demijohn on to a fish pond pump that was on the side, the pump was smoking quit bad it had melted part of the side. Think if i had not have smelt the plastic burning the garage/house would have been on fire. So take care when leaving glass bottles by a south facing window.

jocky 198
yes think it was, would not think the sun could come through double glazed window and straight through demijohn full of water. was a very small white spot about as big as a fag end were it had magnified it . walshie 2,804
I had something similar at my last house and it was pure luck it wasn't worse as we were out when it happened. My mrs has one of those double sided mirrors on the dressing table with a normal mirror on the front and a magnifying one on the back. When we got home one evening, it must have been tilted at just the wrong angle as there was a black scorch line nearly a foot long going across the curtain, then onto the hardwood window frame leaving a deep black gouge out of it. It must have been smouldering but luckily didn't ignite. The room smelt like burnt wood. As above, I'm amazed that sun coming through double glazing has any power left. jacknife 2,005
Over the years I've had a few customers with this problem A couple of customers had doors that have bulls eyes in the glass these can concentrate the sun and set the carpet on fire
