mark williams 7,557
Night shooting has never been my preferred method as i find a good trap line beats a night time air gun, rimfire or shot gun hands down if a good pest control is to be done. Quote Link to post

I really don't want to start a row. but I am genuinely interested in this and you have raised some questions, if you don't mind. 1: Night shooting might not be your preferred method, but surely when you can shoot is down to the landowner. 2: If someone phoned you and asked you to come and do a quick pest control job, would you decline, take a month before you even started it, or just do it? Lastly, do you you believe that with your tactics, you kill more game than the average competent shooter like most on here? After all, it's not stalking a tiger is it? It's shooting rabbits. Thanks. bigmac 97kt 13,796
We shoot mainly at night ,one perm (farmers decision) i can only shoot it at night apart from Xmas eve ,Xmas day, boxing day.these are the only times im aloud on in day time . iv had good results in night time shooting as to day time as my hunting posts have shown . And field craft at night is so much harder to learn as iv say,d day and night is like chalk and cheese so much different Yes you need to learn your land BUT you need to learn it all over again at night and that night time learning takes longer than a few days (not a dig walshie) By the way you only do hide shooting as you shoot a sissy cal 177 be a man and get a mans call 22 atvbmac 1 Quote Link to post

No argument here Sir, 1, Of coarse it is. 2, no i wouldn`t want to decline, i might take longer than a month to start it (i`m a busy man you see), - that would be good. 3, Tactics - game , - no game, or Tigers Sir / only vermin. atb 1 Quote Link to post
villaman 9,983
I think we all have different methods on new land , my self i have a walk a round on day one to see the lay out of the land , to see if there is any obstacles in the way , to see what vermin there is on the land , any public pathways , buildings ,cattle , horses and safe back stops and then take a mental note of every i have seen , once i am happy then i start shooting the land 1 Quote Link to post
mark williams 7,557
Well, just back with my dog from a permission, trained him on retrieving, then went walk abouts. Fabulous morning out (with no gun), all the fields are ploughed now but saw no wildlife other than three buzzards circling like an old western movie. So i foraged about half a pound of sloes to go with some Gin ready for Xmas atb Edited September 27, 2015 by mark williams Quote Link to post

Dean 4546 66
Over the last two days i have been pre baiting up an area where i know its safe to shoot the rats, ie exact distance and safe back stop. Been using nutela + peanut butter. I dont have NV so was looking to lure them in when i can see them. Then this afternoon a lady stoped & asked what i was doing, i explained about my tactics to shoot the rats on the stables, she only explained that she only uses these stables for her over flow from the 3 livery yards she owns & she would like me to cover her 3 yards for rats & the rabbits causing a problem & could i do anything about the magpies & crows stealing her free range chickens feed. All this would never had happened if i didnt go knocking them doors. Thank you for giving me the bottle to go knock them doors ! 4 Quote Link to post

photostore 0
Hi Dean, i'm a newbie on here as well but not a newbie regards permissions. It will get easier for you each time now as you can now say to the next farmer "i shoot for Mr ??? up the road and do some name dropping. (and take your written permission to show to the next.) I found the first the most difficult but after that....easy street, i'm now deciding which to give up or pass to a mate as i cant shoot them all. Being an air gunner willing to shoot small vermin gets you in the door, regular chats and updates for the owner keeps you there, and will expand the shoot area from the rat infested farm building to the rabbit/pigeon covered fields and a yearly bottle of their choice cements it year on year. I bet you can't wait mate Quote Link to post
