gnasher16 30,025
It was The Stig who was mates with him. Cheers, D. I know someone told me they knew him i just couldnt remember who There are some exciting domestic middle weight fights could happen and some of them going up to super middle ...I think young Eubank teaming up with Booth will do him a power of good Couldnt agree more......common sense prevails at last
AKA-BRINDLE 879
yes i remember criss pyatt ,i think he gobother and got banged up . .ive met sibbo a few times decent chap and hes done very well for himself . got out of it before he was punchy!! and invested well .im bloody sure i saw the sibson /minter fight in a local pub on the telle at the time , minter got a good hiding finished him , if i remember , but sibson met his match with haggler ,haggler gave him a right good hiding , and i think sibbo packed it in not long after ,, he always did struggle with his weight did sibbo he wasnt that skillfull as a boxer but a strong lad with a punch like a steam hammer happy days 100% sure the BBC didnt show it mate...remember it well...there was a big fuss about it in the papers at the time...maybe ITV did at a later date...used to have it on VHS from those ads in the back of the boxing mags (pre youtube)...he sure gave Minter a hiding...but to be fair Minter was never the same after Hagler (neither was Sibbo) and it was Minters last ever fight...one fight from around that time i never seen is the 1st Kev Finnegan-v-Hagler...was said to be so brutal that Micky Duff had it stopped...Finnegan lost the rematch stopped on cuts...Hagler and Minter both said Kev was the toughest fighter they ever fought...Finnegan was also in his 30's when he took the British title off Sibson...Heard Sibbo's a real nice bloke...a bit shy? AKA-BRINDLE 879
A bit bored of the whole Klitschko/Fury pantomime for now...with this being a thread about heavyweights who love to moan about not having enough weeks to prepare...spare a thought for game Ovill Mckennzie...flying over to Argentina with 11 days notice to fight for the IBF cruiserweight title...thats the differance between talking about fighting for a world title...and really wanting it! gnasher16 30,025
The fact Mickey Duff stopped a fight should tell you how tough Finnegan was ! Edit to add.................now Ovil Mckenzie there is a proper fighting man....he was over the moon that he had 11 days he said " this will give me time to really prepare ".................normally he gets 3 days !! AKA-BRINDLE 879
The fact Mickey Duff stopped a fight should tell you how tough Finnegan was ! His cheek was hanging off!!...Kev and his corner the ref and doctor all said carry on...Duff demanded it stopped...probably had money on Hagler
AKA-BRINDLE 879
WBC have been talking big about stamping out P.E.Ds in boxing...maybe they would do better just getting their heavyweight house in order...Povetkin is now Wilder's mandatory...how long will they let Wilder dodge him????...one fight thats the complete opposite to all that...that im really looking forward to on the 17th...is Golovkin-v-Lemeux...two fighters that dont really have to fight but are just getting it on for the sake of trying to make a good fight (and the WBA and IBF titles)...reminds you a bit of those previously mentioned Brit middle weights...i have Golovkin as winner...setting him up for a show down with the equally game Andy Lee for his WBO title...bet none of these lads pull out with a sore calf or toe Edited October 2, 2015 by AKA-BRINDLE

Lets hope for an upset...from the upsetter I cant see it myself......but as you say you never know with Ovil.....this is a man who had to put a fight off against Courtney Fry up in Liverpool some years ago because he was working ......cracking character Ovil one of the nicest most decent lads in the game......and in the sort of shape he,s in wont be a pushover for anyone id love to see him bring a belt back... Ol mate i cant believe that im choked for him......we all knew before it would be one of them " have to knock him out to get a draw " type of things........but seriously......did you score the fight Brindle ?......i had Ovil winning by 3 points and im pretty sure im not even being biased i just thought he out hustled him and was the cleaner fighter with everything he threw........gutted......he,ll be lucky to get a rematch i dont think the Argentine will want any more of him. You seem a proper boxing fan mate fair play to you.... it annoys me in a way a genuine lad and seasoned old pro like Ovil gets no attention or backing whatsoever fighting for a legitimate world title out of a good old traditional gym yet a gullible public falls for these attention seeking fighters jumping about in front of every camera they can find having done next to nothing in a boxing ring. AKA-BRINDLE 879
Was hard to score it unbiased as i'd already been told the result...i had him ahead by a round...i dont know all the politics...but theres gotta to be a rematch??...could the IBF make him mandatory??if it goes to purse bids...could be over here?? gnasher16 30,025
Im not positive but im half sure that was a voluntary defence which usually means a champion doesnt have to make a mandatory defence for 6 months....it would mean a promoter making the champion an offer for a rematch he cant refuse......which with Ovil not being a money making name.......probably wont happen.
YOKEL 2,216
here we go... cracking scrap, made a good show of himself full stop, let alone with 11 days notice. i can see where they got the draw, and he fact the argies seemed happy with it says it all.there was some close rounds and being on home soil and all. he deserves a rematch on that show... Yokel Thought the Argies showd good sportsmanship allround to be honest...someone was holding a Malvinas t-shirt during Ramirez ring walk...thought they would play up hell during the national anthem...maybe they didnt realize Mckenzie was British...like you say he deserves a rematch

Find it hard to get my head around the politic's side of the business...last time i looked the IBF #1 and #2 rankings where un-rated...read somewhere Tony Bellew is line up for a shot at Ramirez in the near future?...he must be licking his lips after saturday...as he beat Mckenzie twice at lightheavy...i think that would leave Ovill out the picture...unless as you say a promoter offers the Argie an offer he cant refuse for the rematch Is Ovill Mckenzie related to Clinton and Duke??...all originating from Jamaica...Clinton these days has a gym in Dulwich...do you remember his son Leon?...he used to play up front for the Canaries...scored a brace against Ipswich on debut...and scored against Chelsea to end the longest goal drought in premiership history ...he's fighting an eliminator for the British super middleweight title at York hall on the 17th...also heard Lewis Grabban who plays for us is his cousin quite the sporting family...wondered if Ovill was related?
