krawnden 1,036
I've only just seen this so it might be too late for this year - sorry. But I get 15 day old meat chicks early - mid August each year and take them on to Christmas. Dressed out the hens average about 8lb and the cockerels go anywhere from 10 - 14lb. I used to kill them at about 12 weeks, by which time the hens are around 5lb and the cockerels 7 - 8lb. But keeping them that bit longer I found they really piled the weight on. I get them from Poulet Anglais in Lincolnshire, who deliver all over the country (Speak to Simon Skinner - 01790 763066.) They send several thousand down to Devon every week and I just arrange to meet the delivery driver en-route and they put in an extra box with my chicks. I know of several people in other parts of the country who have a similar arrangement so it's worth speaking to them in case they have any deliveries anywhere near you. I pay 87p per chick and cos I meet the driver en-route they don't charge me for delivery. They do several different types of bird but the ones I get are JA787. Don't get JA757 which I did by mistake one year - they won't reach anywhere near the same size.
