pianoman 3,587
I've always bought quality air rifles from the best makers in the business so, I never had a duff one I regretted buying to speak of.But, 18 years ago, I bought a cheap Chinese scope;- I cannot remember the name of, that looked terrific. Pin sharp focus, fine-hair 30/30 reticle, the turrets clicked silently and positively firm with a coin; it was approved and proofed for heavy recoiling firearms. "Aha! I thought, 'this might be just the scope for my then-brand new, just-tuned FAC HW80 .22 it had so much going for it, I snapped it up on impulse. 65 Quid!Mounted it up on the '80, zeroed it in at 30 yards within about 30 shots and a plink or two. Beautiful. Went off on the first bunny hunt with the new rifle and scope.Out pops bunny...Aim...Got him bang on the button..Fire...SMASH!The recoil was a lot fiercer than it is now and the reticle lens just collapsed off the gymbal and the view through the front objective lens somehow took on an oval shape. And to add insult to injury, I missed the bloody rabbit!Moral of story. Never put a cheap scope on a 21.6 ft/lb recoiling spring rifle!Simon 1 Quote Link to post

secretagentmole 1,701
For me it was the Webley Stingray Mk 2 in .177. Always wanted a nice British gun and did not do my research. Had a Hatsan 60S and wanted a smaller calibre weapon too. Had a handle of it in the gun shop, took it out back and test fired it, hit the bulls eye at 10 metres. Bought it. Then after a few trips thought, this trigger feels identical to my 60S. Examined gun carefully, made in Turkey! Yes I spent double the money on a Hatsan 55S. I could have had the same gun, but with a lot of money left over for libatory purposes. Lesson learnt! Quote Link to post

kanny 21,100
Back in the 80s I bought a Saxby and palmer ensign elite before they were made fac only..What a Croc of shite most of the time it would just not fire as the cartridges tended to leak. I think I only got it because I was seduced by the bolt action and I could walk round like a Mexican bandito with the shotgun cartridges belt ..kids eh? Quote Link to post
jonnie bravo 572
Luckily I haven't done it with rifles yet. But scopes many a time! I purchased a Nikko gameking 6-24x50 IR AO, huge thing, that sat on top of an AA S200. Shite combo, too many bells and whistles not enough good glass. I've let go of a few great scopes and thought 'why did I do that???' Simmons etc 1.5-5x20, Bushnell trophy 3-9x40, and recently an mtc genesis UL 3-9x40. All great scopes. Luckily I managed to hold onto another Bushnell trophy! Moral of the story don't let go of good glass Quote Link to post
Seamaster 153
I had this fixation a while back with the Daystate Regal. I bought one when they first hit the shops, it was crap. I bought another about three months later, it was crap. I bought another about three months after that because I'd read that they had improved, it was crap. I bought another about six months later because I love the look of them, it was crap. I bought three more because I kept thinking they cant be that bad, they were crap. For me, the Daystate Regal is the most beautiful, best handling, crappest gun currently available and the sad thing is, I'll probably buy another heap of shit again. But not for a good while yet. mark williams 7,563
Looking back all those years it has to be that plastic stocked Crossman pump up, i`d much rather go out with a catapult, it was shockingly shite. I remember putting about 6 bb`s at a time in her and shooting close range starlings with it, the bb`s bounced off ! Quote Link to post
