lurchers 2,881
There's more lads up here started going out with the dogs than ever before.as the younguns is out at 8 o'clock at night even in breeding season then they wonder why there's nothing in there areas.its called breeding season for a reason but like you say 20yrs ago walking from 12 o'clock at night till 7 in the morning was normal for us and decent bags to. low plains drifter 10,728
Finished work at 5 this morning and decided to give the young bitch a couple of runs on some small bumpy pasture fields done well to make 2 nice catches considering her inexperience of rabbit lamping and the amount of rabbits running in all directions. Myxy has hammered the rabbit population in my area the last couple of seasons but no sign of any so far this year just hope it stays that way it's about time they had a break from that putrid pus, atb to everyone for this season 1 Quote Link to post
bird 9,982
Or people taking to much regularly plus mixy will soon knock numbers down as well , as the old saying goes you can only kill them once . where I used to live by the midland game fair, I was there 25 years, and when I 1st moved there I get say 20 rabbits week, not a lot with what people get today, but plenty for me every week . this went on for a quite a long time ,and I even went to places near by of say 12 mile radius . then about 10 years ago the numbers really went down , was lucky to get 6-7 rabbits from 2 hours lamping. the mixy used hit them hard and I don't think they ever really recovered from that , and looking back with just I was getting near enough rabbits a month for quite few years to start with . so there is a lot in the saying you only can kill them once deff Quote Link to post
lurchers 2,881
When I sit back and look at all the rabbits I've took in 35yrs which was big bags and all the ones other lads have had over the said same years, then what everybody is taking now it must of took a hell of a knock on effect even with mixy you still got good bags as they still had plenty of time to breed after the effected rabbits.but there was good breeding seasons to,not like now there is any which there should be as once it's gone it's gone.i think people have to take a step back now and think and help the breeding season out.it kills my step son when it starts as I won't let him take the dog out as I no he's going to kill his own sport off then wonder why it is crap around the doors.i know the farmers get on to you but you don't have to take as many as you can as he doesn't no how many you caught unless you tell him the truth as I no mine doesn't no what I've getting.you clean it out then where ya going to go as I need him for my certificates. J Darcy 5,871
Well be f****d if they become a protected species atb AT I reckon within the next decade there'll be many places in the Uk with no rabbits at all. My areas going that way, and has been in a steady decline for thirty years. Better to have loved and lost............ Quote Link to post

Better to have loved and lost............Same in most places,it's the knock on effect after the bunnies are gone which is worrying as a lot of wildlife depends on the coney for survival, personally I think lads with lurchers won't of had a hand in this,it's down to disease, the people who invented myxi need to reinvent a cure before it's too late atb AT MIXIY AS BIN ABOUT FOR DONKEYS YEARS ITS BECOME PART OF NATURE IN ITS OWN WAY,,,,,THE MIXIY IS NOT AT THE TOP OF THE LIST FOR GROUND GOING DOWN HILL,,, Quote Link to post
