Common sense?A long time ago there may have been a situation where everyone had an abundance of it,in the world today it is all replaced by bungling officialdom, politicians and red tape!If you put all the

high profile citizens of the politics world and other qualified people who run the country together

there still would not be enough of it between them,i have more common sense in my A****hole and

that ain't shit neither!

after a letter from the police monday today i got a letter from the council neither are taking further action :toast::boogie::drink: both letters smacked of a verbal telling off the letter from the council advised the dangers to mine and the dogs health and to leave it to the pros :notworthy: i spoke to someone from the cottages who reported the rat problem to the council soon after my trouble - to date no feckers been  and the problems no better maybe i should write for a permit :whistling:

At least ye got away with it, Flint :good: Would've caused a hell of a furore in the local press if they'd pushed it, of course.

So now it'll be on the time sheet of some long faced jobs worth and, eventually, the rats wil be poisoned, along with the inescapable risks to local non target species.

But rest easy in the sure knowledge that a Great british pseudo tradition will once more be up held; NO c*** will get to Enjoy the work! And the public will Pay through Taxes!

On the subject of nosey passer byers ,we were ratting around a shed with a smoker and 5 terriers when the law pulls up and askes me to turn the smoker off so he could be heard .He then said that they'd had reports of 'hare coursing' to which we all started laughing .After we explained what we were doing he sees the error of what hes just said and they both stayed a while to watch the sport .If we'd had lurchers out ,i dare say we would have been left trying to defend ourselves . Another time we were ferretting and a wpc comes mincing over to us to ask what we were doing ."Ferretting'"the keeper said annoyed .To which the wpc says ," didnt know there were that many ferrets around here" .Keeper says dryly," well weve had hell of a day ,got 4 in the box already ".We had to explain to her that ferretting is a legitimate way of rabbit control to which she seemed enlightened and minced her way back to the road .Someone had reported us for illegal digging?

got a knock on me door last week from someone asking about shifting some rats, ever weary i took the details and went to have a look . turns out thrs six cottages on an unclassified road the ditch across the road is over run with em . one old gal had been sliceing up lemons n oranges she`d heard they keep rats away? anyway it had`nt worked so this morning despite the pissin rain i take the my 2 older russell type bitchs see what i can do , i knock on all the cottage doors just to let them know what i`m about no problems from any of em. within the hour we got 6 rats and the prospect of more .the chap who asked me to have a look pops over with a welcome mug of tea he`s well happy .twenty mins further in and i`m digging away for my old bitch whos lovin it when 2 ladys go by on horses i give them a cheery good morning and a wave :bye: then comes the question are you digging for fox :wallbash:holding up a handfull of dead rats i explain the problem and what i`m doing . half an hour later yes half an hour not 3 hours days or weeks i`m getting a tug from the law blue lights n all :hmm: went thru the dumb question routine dont you think its cruel letting the dogs get soaked and muddy was the best one  anyway turns out they gonna report me to the council for damaging council property the ditch and digging for rats . all reminds me of early eightys when we got a pull when out foxing the law thought we whr digging the queer feller i thought the digging game whr fecked then . i`m thinking the same now :whistling:

Flint; If, as ye say, the rats aren't encroaching on and there by directly threatening the health and physical well being of the residents, it's highly unlikely the council will do jack shit about it. They just won't want anyone else doing it.

Were they to attend to the problem? I'd imagine they'd go for Burrow Baiting. Most likely that would consist of spooning loose grain bait directly into the holes and them treading the entrances down. That's pretty standard proceedure.

Personally, I don't like it where other animals are around, such as those cottagers Dogs. Dog may smell a dead rat and dig for it, finding the bait. Dead rat full of half digested bait won't register on a Dog. But learning that a few scratches earns it a bean feast ....?

That's why I'm a Box and Blox man. Secure 'Rat Boxes' with intermally secured blocks of bait inside them. Rodents can only gnaw off so much at a time and not much else can get at it. Cuts down on the rats tendency to scuttle back and forth, cacheing loose baits who knows where. That.of course, rather bringing us back to the above situation, look.

As for how much bait? Hardly a consideration, in that situation. As I envisage it, ye'd get change out of a 3Kilo bucket of bait. Say that costs around £20? But that's not the issue; It's the cost to the Poll Tax payers for them to send their man out, time and again, to lay, monitor and replenish the stuff.

You, of course, could've done as much in a couple of hours, for free.
