Raymond 618
Out ferreting today, hardship to get into the burrows.Got five rabbits, 4 diggs after breaking through lots of blackberry bushes. Averaged 3 foot the diggs, lots of stones to chip away to get through to rabbits. Enjoyed the day. The thing is Im bringing on a couple of russel pups. There about 12 months now. Theyve been out a couple of times now and are doing well enough for me. The thing is the smallest of the 2 russels shot down the burow out of site and dragged the rabbit out to the entrance by the arse and the ferret had the rabbit by the head. Question is what do people think is this good or bad in there views. I will have to put a collar on her if I continue to use her ferreting. She is tiny and the burrow was nothing to her to squeeze through. The other option is to stop her ferreting and use her on foxes instead.Shes coming along lovely bushing and ferreting, hate for her to have to stop when shes only starting Quote Link to post
stealthy1 3,964
We collar all our small dogs when out, it's not joke digging up a full warren to find terrier that's got stuck and stopped barking. Also know of folk that have never seen there terriers again after being lost under ground. 1 Quote Link to post
lurchers 2,820
Put a collar on her mate and then you can use her for both if that's what she is like, but master the baying noise between her on a rabbit or a fox then you can tell what's in front of her.atb 1 Quote Link to post

I got the 2 terriers for marking the burrows and watching the holes, either stopping the rabbits from bolting and backing into the ferret or grabbing the rabbits at the entrance as they tryn to bolt from the ferret. The burrows are too dirty for putting nets down. They are starting well with marking, rabbits have backed down the burrow entrance into the ferret and I just put my arm down and pull it out as the ferret is killing it.Saves on some digging and they have caught a few as they tried to bolt from the hole.So when the smaller one decided to start going down the burrow I seen it as a step backwards from how she is staring with the ferreting. The 2 terriers dont bark yet and may never bark. I will more than likely stick a collar on her as she is helpfull while ferreting. Quote Link to post
