J Darcy 5,871
The only reason it's ended is Greed! I was only talking to a mate of mine this morning about the big game fairs. I said that the Midland would be finished before too long. There is a distinct lack of stalls, at both big events. This is down to greed. Stall pitch prices should be capped at a lower figure, then the fair would be bigger and draw more money in. The entrance fee should be much smaller as this too will bring more people in. People with money. It should be a win-win situation. However, the current situation has been coming for a good decade at least: The CLA's busy so they put the price up. Less people come, so they put the price up more to compensate, so less people come. On the flip side, they put the pitch rates up, so it's harder for pitches to make a profit, as there's less customers coming through the gates due to the high entrance fee. So the next year there's less stalls. And the next, and the next. So, they brought it upon themselves by being greedy . IMO. I'm sad to see it end.

bullmastiff 615
Entrance fee was going to be £34 this year. With attendance of around 150,000 that's 4.5 million just in gate fees let alone the money from stalls. How can it cost that much to run a game fair....
Born Hunter 17,798
I'm not sure I would say greed has killed it. The Internet has killed it. All the stuff you would go to a game fair for years ago you have now at your finger tips.
paulus 26
the Great Game Fairs of Ireland seem to be doing fine, perhaps they should have a word with Albert.
keepitcovert 842
Does not surprise me in the least, all gamefairs have been going down the same route for years now, most are glorified car boot sales these days. Attended driffield game fair on saturday it was more like a craft fair, no lurcher events and very little else, plenty of psuedo hunters walking round in 70 degree temp dressed in harris tweeds , sweat rolling off them. The old style hunt shows were far better, think ill be giving them a miss from now on.
