Saluki Worth The Hassle

Recommended Posts

male saluki when reared correctly are by nature dominant dogs I have seen plenty that are like lions in own territory and will defend their home to the hilt. Any dog if mis handled or allowed to dictate will become aggressive if allowed to do so , this is where the socialising aspect of early conditioning comes into play, but any dog dominant by nature will one way or another finds its place in the pack. A wicked saluki is a very dangerous animal to be around. Ownersneed to be matched to the type of dog they require hence the idiots with the status dogs and the bling boys.

Most real dog men????   What the hel does that mean?,,,,if you mean the coursing lads out on the fens ,,,don't put them up on a pedastel that's just silly talk,,,there just dog lads same as all of u

Genocide is the only answer with these cnuts. This fuucker has just had me up after crying for 2hours. He won't leave me alone. Follows me to the shitter/kitchen/laundry room. Constantly has a slapped

Morton I'd disagree..   I've had collie types and switched to saluki crosses.   I have one that's pretty much a sight hound however it's hunting ability and prey drive leaves my old collie types

I got a pup here bought as a collie whippet grey x saluki whippet grey and it's bold as anything, tell there's a good dash of saluki in it just by looking at it. And when you play with it, the switch is flipped and it's a right fiery little sod. Not seen a pup with this much go in it before, quite funny how serious it is. Literally 7 weeks old lol really looking forward to bringing it on as the weeks fly by, should make a nice bitch.

in the early 70s when I was a boy I bred a litter of lurchers from a whippet beddy cross full saluki bitch, back to a whippet dog. these pups used to fight like f**k a bloke came all the way from leister to buy one, there were two dog pups left. when all hell broke loose he said ive never seen pups fight like that ile have em both. atb two crows.

Good post DB I can relate. I've seen the lion within my saluki lurcher,, not against me or my family, but he doesn't like people at the door, or strangers talking to me while we in the van.. and I love that, he never gets told off for defending us or his home...

Wild little thing he was as a pup, but living in with us and loads of socialising has seen him turn into a confident we'll behaved dog. Very clever animal he is, if there is food to be earned and a trick to be learned, it's learned quick lol... Goes against everything you read about them really. Good recall etc... Mine is very much a one man dog... Wouldn't change him for the world...

I've had saluki lurchers a couple of decades now and I can't see me choosing any other cross anytime soon.

I've caught a hell of alot of tackle with them, all over the Uk and surrounding lands.......

The simple facts are, i would jack most collie crosses..... :icon_eek:

Total pish,if you cannot jack a Saluki hybrid you will never find enough graft for a proper bred Collie/cur.Ive owned and worked both types for "3" decades now, geez i bent and bruised them at times, the Saluki hybrids skulked and sulked when they got taxed, the Collie/curs took it in their stride, fed, rested, then went around again. You must have owned Hancock or Otley bred herding bred. Its naive to even talk about jacking a dog, nuggets jack dogs, others work them within their limitations, for year after year after year, even a decade or 2,not the same dog mind, ill leave that to the bull owners that are still grafting and breeding from dogs that died 18 years ago.

Come out with me for a month and I'll jack you....

If i went out with you for a month id waste that much time on focusing the cameras and getting my prose correct for the CMW id get little hunting done, possibly about right for both of us now,not that long ago we both hunted with some intent, age curbed my aspirations, dollar curbed yours :tongue2: .Seriously our dogs do the talk, mine are mute :whistling: .

sssshhh............you keep on keeping on.

My opinions are my opinions. That's all.

But they're based on hunting everything in the British Isles and surrounding islands, both day and night, with a variety of dogs.

Not thousands, but tens of thousands of miles travelling.

Saluki lurchers are suited to me. My choice.

I always say to people who slag me off; I hope they do more hunting than me. They never do.

Good Hunting.

I don,t believe ive ever slagged you mucker, i like your input, your pics and your hunting input,on here, the CMW etc. That does not mean i always agree with it,yet still find common ground with you,I hunt my way,you do yours, our paths cross and hold common ground, yet id not put a Saluki hybrid over a Collie,in the field,i find that ignorant of hunting and ill wager a bet you would possibly concur with me on that,at times.I don,t post to earn the respect others desire,i post my opine,as do you.Ill guarantee that may be at odds at times, the vast majority of the time it may be at odds with the nuggets that frequent this site, i do not see you as one of them,i see you as my hunting equal that i may differ with at times and post accordingly. My choice would be Saluki based lurchers, alas after a few years in the field i find them seriously wanting and find the Collie cur/Deerhoundy a far better option, the ones i own now have a little Saluki in the mix,in honesty that has not aided them in my kennel, ill lend you one and it not be so restrictive in yours, even after a month mucker. We can have a day out and take the terriers, geez another wasp nest

You said I'm in the dogs for the dollar. That's an insult.

Like I say, when you're as keen as me, then you can insult me.

Hope you have a good season.

My intent was you earnt a dollar from your hunting experiences and lifestyle,by way of your books and input on the CMW,i never meant that as a slight on your character mucker, apologies if thats how it came to be seen.Id be insulted to be called the same, again apologies.Back to the thread, fecking Saluki hybrids have little in comparison,or their owners,to Collie curs, plus they will never last as long in an honest working kennel :boogy: .Back to the terriers?.Apologies if you where insulted.
