Dave1812 0
What is the best bait for squirrels in a spring live capture trap. I'm using shop bought squirrel feed but the local feathered friends keep on nicking the bait. Should I mix the feed with peanut butter? Any suggestions are most welcome. Quote Link to post

Dirksdonuts 79
Just use dried maize it works a treat and they see it from a long way off. I buy it from the local countrywide farmers store in 10kg bags for about £8 Quote Link to post
Rowan 308
Maize/sweetcorn , as above they can see that bright yellow and will come in to investigate. Quote Link to post
Dave1812 0
Thanks for the replies, however nobody has mentioned about preventing woodland birds nicking off with the bait Quote Link to post
FENN 24
Thanks for the replies, however nobody has mentioned about preventing woodland birds nicking off with the bait If using Maize you could put a small bit of board in the back of the cage and silicone the maize to the board so the birds dont nick it Edited September 19, 2015 by FENN Quote Link to post
arnieboy 93
hazel nuts drilled and wired to cage works for me Quote Link to post
dpb82uk 138
yer peanut butter works well but iv had the a few hedgehogs in the live catch traps iv all so superglued hazelnuts to mk6 traps with good results Quote Link to post
Dirksdonuts 79
To stop the hedgehogs push two hazel sticks in to narrow the gap, this will also stop larger birds entering. The squirrels just push through if its too narrow Quote Link to post
