fireman 10,994
That's why I said a Picardy Shepard wouldn't do it because of weight,it has the size but I no a lad who has really big bullxs that's done them but his dogs are at least 70/80lb in weight.i know a bloke who has permission to shoot them up Scotland on a farm because of the damage they cause and once they are cleaned weigh in at 110lb+ I should expect they will be bigger than that! Mature red stag in Norfolk can reach 20 stone plus in live weight. Suffolk to has it's fare share of them to .. Quote Link to post

coverdogs 888
Here's what i cant get with these single handed dogs on red deer, if a person is using for instance a picardy x shepard or a big deerhound x bull what is the catch rate of these dogs?. A fully mature red stag is no slough i have seen them jump 8ft fences in there stride and jump rivers and roads of 12ft and more so i am thinking what distance would you need to be to slip your dog say a 150 to 100 yards?. I think pre ban if some people could creep up with there lurcher and see two stags fighting in the rutting season in the flesh a lot would think twice about slipping. . A.T.B. sandymere 8,263
I've posted before about the time I went into a little two feild bit of permission looking for some fallow and the dog was keen as we went in so flicked on the lamb to see a red deer hind with her 3/4 grown youngster slip through thr far hedge. I quickly slipped down to the open gate into the next feild keeping to one side, just got to the hedge, big over grown thing, and about to slip through the gateway when a stag roared the otherside of the hedge, about 6 foot away. Made the hair stand up on the back of my neck. The dog was pulling on the slip but I thoughtbugger that and headed back to the gate and went else where that night. 2 Quote Link to post

keeganrees 196
Interesting .. As the dog I have here has Picardy blood as the father was a half cross he was a big lump of a dog stood around 27tts not sure how much he weight be he was a big old dog and was apparently doing all species of male saplings bar the holy grail .. It's nice to think it can be done ... But wouldn't more be using Picardy blood if it was the 'dog for the job' .??? Quote Link to post
