My boss had one in his garden recently,as said not too common,we read up on them and apparently they fly in the rain and come back to the same spots so you could see it again...

Yes, they often go back to the same feed flowers. The more aromatic the scent the better. These moths can't really overwinter in the UK, so they are migrants from the continent where it's a bit warmer. They, however, can breed over here if they arrive early enough and if we have an Indian summer, though the chance of finding these caterpillars is remote at best. They can be over-wintered artificially I believe, but it's not easy. A cracking find!
