New Allotment Progress

Been down the allotment most of the weekend tidying up pulled a old green house down and another building that was full of spuds,got a skip coming at weekend for all the glass and other rubbish and a big pile of scrap metal. So it's getting there slow but sure.

Anybody know what the tree is in the pic? Hopefully it's a fruit tree if some sort as where it is we have earmarked for a couple of apple and pear trees.

Looks a bit like a Plum tree to me. but i'm no expert.

 

 

Whats the soil like ?? Heavy/light/sandy. Mine was really heavy, good in the summer as it held on to the moisture, but a ba*tard to dig.

It's quite heavy in places it's got structure to it so the missus says I ain't got a clue ?

My soil got better the more compost and organic matter i put on it. One part of the allotment was still heavy though. I'd dig it in the late Autumn, it would rain, and i'd have to dig it again because the soil had "settled" Very heavy work.

We've only dig a bit of plot so not sure what's the rest is like,there is s strip were the previous tennet had wooden planks down to walk on so it might be compacted there

if it was fruit tree surely it would be bearing fruit already this time year looks mature enough,very similar to some apple trees near me but they are smaller although they are ladden with apples,either way great project and rewarding in time atb with it

Yes rob I thought that about the tree,all the trees around the allotments have fruit on them so don't know,might just chop it down and make space for fruit trees

Some of the leaves and the main trunk look like hazel to me.

not all fruit trees bare fruit every year i thought same as arch at first but the longer i looked i think tiercel is right

It's a type of plum buddy.

 

Until you get it to fruit you might not find out the type...

Does that tree have same sort of leaves as mine ? Mine had 5 or 6 fruit for the first time this year and an old hand told me it was a plum but the fruit disappeared early on so I didn't get to confirm

Maybe an Apricot? Mine is out of fruit now, due to being eaten.

When I said 'plum', it could be a greengage, damson, plum, apricot......you'll have to wait to see what the fruits like......
