Guest Lurcherbitch
I have just had an awfull morning at the vets. I had to have an old girl pts. I gave her a lovely walk a nice bit of breaky & tried to make her last hours nice. But.......then i got to the vets, We waited 45mins to be seen, we was sat in a waiting room full of yappy poodles n huge male dog's wanting to hump my old girl. We eventually got called in, I told the vet I would be staying with her till she dies. The next thing this nurse comes in grabs the dog round the neck n pins her down, i was not impressed :realmad: . This poor old girl was scared shittless. If i was aloud to i would pts myself...but i cant. I am now wondering what other legal methods there are to pts, as my dog's are both 11yrs yes they have a few years left, But my god I dont want the last god knows how long of my dog's life sat in a waiting room n pinned to the floor Call themselves humane...like f**k was that humane :realmad: . Sorry a tad emotional Steps off soap box
Guest Keeps
A lot of vets will do a home visit LB, though I think it costs a bit more. Wish I'd known that when i had to have one of mine pts a few years ago, had a very similar experience to you in fact I refused to see that vet ever again Hope you're OK :friends:
Snelly 0
Very sorry to hear you have lost a dog and that the experience at the vet's was traumatic. I have only had to have one dog PTS in the last few years - a terrier that at 15, was becoming a senile, unhappy and crotchety lady. I took the decision to do the right thing by her and when the time came around, I was in the fortunate position that I could take her up to the local foxhound kennels (a place she had good memories of) where one of my best mates who she knew well took her for a last walk around the grounds. After around ten minutes, as she stopped to smell the flowers, she was "sent over the rainbow bridge" with a shot to the back of a head from a pistol. She knew nothing about it and in my view, it was a much better way to go than experiencing the stress of the vets which incidentally she always hated anyway. Not everyone has this option I know but I am very thankful that I do as I think it's the kindest way. Again, I am sincerely sorry that you have lost your dog. :friends: Time heals. Best wishes, Snelly.
J Darcy 5,871
got to agree with snelly....better to die in their familiar surrounding i guess. The method of use is immaterial really as long as the dog is killed instantly, and what is more humane than a gun? Sorry to hear it LB.... hope things get back to normal asap...... She was sixteen owner gave her over as she didnt have the heart to pts her, so she put the poor dog through being passed from pillar to post. I did my best to give the old girl a dignified ending as i am sure she was once a very good loving dog for someone. Unfortunatly with the dog's that i have to pts i am a stranger to them..but i do my damndest to make there last day's happy n caring i spend all my time with them so when the end does come they aint alone. So for her to be treated like that for her last hour on this earth was f*****g shite.
Tommy Gunn 0
When my old dog reached that time we got the vet to do a home visit and she was PTS in her own basket with my mum giving her a hug. Cost a bit more but they didn't even want the cash there and then, they let us settle up later at the vets practice. It was the least we could do for our old gal. Guest Doug
They aren't all like that. My own vet doesn't do pts, so I took my old gal to the local vet who is shite but then any idiot can put a dog down (I'd never let that practice loose on a dog that needed treatment). They put a clean blanket down for the old lass, then I sat on the floor at her head and the vet did the necessary, with a nurse in attendance. The dog slipped away nice and gently, while the vet listened to her heart until she went. They let me out of the back door so I didn't have to go through the waiting room. Told me to pay next day or so. Two days later, to my amazement, I got a hand-written card offering condolences from the vet. Went up in my estimation no end. LB so sorry you had to go through that. I'd complain. Dammit you pay enough.
