I don't think theres much hunting to be had in a blizzard , it stands to reason in some parts of the country they might not be ideal and better coated dogs stand above, but not every county in the country is as harsh as others so to generalise is a touch unfair , down south you can count the minus temps on 2 hands in the winter along with the snow days ,that don't mean to say we don't get out in the colder days CIMG0971.jpgCIMG1969.jpgsnow008.jpgsnowit2119.jpgsnowit023.jpg29b9123f-a46c-4f0d-915b-0ed41c5af896_zpssnowit005-1.jpg

All thin skinned dogs feel the gold and wet,,,whippet or lurcher,,,,it don't stop them working in most cases,,,but they do feel it,,,

Get on them tops in the dead of winter,,,and it is one horrible place to be at times,,,and when nothing is happening ,,,I've seen dogs with coat try to hide behind a ferret box,,,or even a spade,,,lol,,mind you I've seen Vin try to hide behind a spade...

Frost......snow......cold.......never bothered mine, but..

Wet...damp...driving rain...( and if not much happening when ferreting ) that's the only thing that really phased mine.

My little Sandy lurcher I've got now is the worst dog I have ever owned with regards weather.

Same as mine, soon as the driving rain started she tucked up like an Italian greyhound and slinked from bush to tree trying to hide from the wind.

Yep, all thin coated dogs feel it in harsh cold weather. Get the right type of whippet and, like as been said, it'll graft through the worst British weather but it'll still look a sorry state whilst doing nothing. Weather can change but it's a callus type of bloke that knows his thin skinned dog is gonna have to endure hours stood still in sub-zero winds and worse. And graft like that will effect the dogs ability on the day.

If you know you can keep em moving with enough to go at, in bad weather, then the coat matters not.

100% bang on. My lad will work whatever the weather, but it defiantly takes it out of him more being stood about then the heavier coated dogs. Ferreting in sub zero temperatures, he can look pretty miserable, but bushing he's not bothered in the slightest.
