Gary73 62
Earlier in the year after some issues with a huge amount of magpies hammering the blackbirds in the hedges I decided to even the score. Playing around with a camera and my s410k .177 with Jsb 4.52 exacts at 20 yards. I normally dont bother unless they are really hammering the locals but decided it was time to level the playing field. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzGImWxY868&feature=youtu.be Amazing what a 780fps Jsb can do. I could of popped the one on the feeder but thats not cricket so took the one with the catalogue backstop which if you watch closely catches the pellet. I am again having one or two birds causing some issues so I can see the Hw100kt .22 with A&M Marskman and H&N FTT coming out to play if they carry on. Rez 4,961
Good man. That's a Hawke ret, which model? Quote Link to post
ratbuster 807
Nice shot and instant death, that's how it should be! Keep them down and we get more songbirds.... Were young ones from this year I think 1 Quote Link to post
Gary73 62
It's a hawke panorama 4-12x40 it was the first time I had the camera on and it was not quite right. It had to much mag and the camera position in relation to ret was out. I have it much better now. It was one of this years birds, every April to May they cause no end of trouble but normally by just taking one out in front of the others they don't come back and leave the local birds alone. That day 8 magpies all came in at the same time and caused mayhem. The pellet hit in the corner of the eye and came out of the back of the skull. It took it straight of its feet and it died on the spot. That's normally enough for the year and they disappear but now they are back again in high numbers over 10 and Jackdaws coming with them, two particular birds are really being a pain. I used to have a garden full of birds and my daughter and I used to sit and watch them and we even put some nest boxes up but the magpies seem to have claimed the area...for now. Coypu Hunter 486
Aye, if they have a good year, then they can take over, and all the other birds suffer. They do learn though: we were overrun last year, so I shot over a dozen of the bergers, and it's been nice and quiet since then... 1 Quote Link to post

Gary73 62
I don't normally have to bother them but every now and again they seem to group up and lay siege for a few weeks. Sometimes you have to break the stalemate. Quote Link to post
