Seamaster 153
Went and got myself a brand new one today, in .22 with a wood stock and adjustable butt pad. I put a Nikko Stirling 3-9x40 AO IR on it for now but will probably put something a bit better on it in the next couple of weeks. It's a heavy bugger but really good quality, everything clicks and glides like it should. I pulled the barrel through a few times then put about half a tin of FAPs through it. I must say it's easy to be accurate with this gun and the weight helps with that. So far I'm well pleased with it's performance and I love the look of it. Chris 2 Quote Link to post
bernie67 35
the 97 is a lovely gun Chris the first i bought from sfs so i did not have anything to compare it to.but the more experienced shooters on the forum say W H springers benefit from being tuned.glad you are liking it.its one that will always stay with me. 2 Quote Link to post

villaman 9,982
Great guns Chris , shot mine to day also in .22 bang on the mark every time , Falcons are the best pellet all my HW guns or JSB Express best thing to do is shoot a few tins through it ,then strip and polish , imo no need for a tuning kit Mine after a strip and polish is running @11.5 with a spread of 5 fps over 30 shots and that was tested to day . Put a few FAP pellets through the Sandwell fields sport IMP to day as well , my god that gun is the best brake barrel I have ever shot pellet on pellet at 40 yards Knelling 5 Quote Link to post

Get it bedded in first and then a strip and polish. I didn't keep the last 97 I had long enough to do that. I do like the thumbhole stock, it fits me just right. Chris 2 Quote Link to post
random 659
No no you misunderstand,I mean its something we've heard that's all, good gun and those weihrauch thumbholes are good, shoulder well and feel right, just not much to look at compared to some! Why do the hw100's come thumbhole or sporter at the same price but the 97's cost more for thumhole?? Quote Link to post

Why do the hw100's come thumbhole or sporter at the same price but the 97's cost more for thumhole?? That's a good point mate, I hadn't thought of that. I did try the sporter and I've had one before but the thumbhole just felt better so I paid the extra (£70 I think). Chris Quote Link to post
Rez 4,961
Is it stainless? You may have said but is it not twangy? My own was out the box, but it's the best rifle I have and have owned now. Just wish I had the standard action colour. Quote Link to post
Seamaster 153
No it's blued mate. It isn't too twangy yet but they tend to get worse after a tin of pellets if I remember right. The accuracy is very good straight away though so after a run in I'll strip and polish and maybe put a tbt drop in kit in it. Chris 1 Quote Link to post
Rez 4,961
Some may disagree but I'd opt for the v-Mach with HW's. What made you choose TbT for it? I do have one for my PS, but found that the internals of the AA springers are better from new, so literally only use the guide. My thinking was to replace the intire lot for the v-made spring/sleeve etc for my 97. I don't know if the TbT kit is as good as the vmachs for HW 1 Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
I love my HW97K .177 rifle. That one has a Sandwell Field Sports kit fitted and I love its consistent performance and accuracy. But my HW77 .22 is an incredible rifle. A good friend who knows his spring rifles stripped and polished it internally to perfection. There are no extra tuning parts, just all original Wiehrauch 77. It produces stunningly accurate groups at 35 metres. I zero it for hunting at 30 metres and it just hits hard and sure all day. Both these rifles will stay with me till I die! 3 Quote Link to post

I don't know if the TbT kit is as good as the vmachs for HW V mach kit is the way to go with the 97 full stop and i should no iv had plenty of them top class rifles but do need a tune and polish get it done now dont wait until its bedded in as once the kit is fitted you will just have to bed it in again and may even have to take it apart if the power stays over and it will go over once a kit is fitted and it takes a few tins of pellets to bring her down the benefits of a tune,d and polished rifle will be noticeable strait away less recoil smoother action and very accurate by far And less noise atvbmac  1 Quote Link to post
