I have to say I was far from impressed with the performance of my Daystate Regal but then again, I was not familiar with 'Power Curves' and 'Sweetspots' having been a lifelong devotee of spring rifle shooting. Daystate serviced the rifle and tuned it to 11.3 ft/lbs which for a .177 is very sweet. But at a full 200-bar fill it only produces 10.3. That might be fine for some shooters but, to me barely adequate power is not what I'm after.

Tonight, out hunting rabbits with the rifle zeroed at 40-metres and set on 160-bar pressure=11.3 ft/lbs I bagged 6 rabbits, two of which were at over 50 metre ranges for a little holdover, others at 25, 30-35 metres. All clean headshots. That's all I ask of my kit. It does the job without drama or worries over adequate power and accuracy. The rifle is smooth to cock on the bolt action which I really like, it's AM Moderator makes it very silent and it's fantastically accurate.

A ten-shot magazine full of Air Arms Field 4.51mm grouped to a single hole, well inside a five-pence piece disc at 40 metres is good enough for anyone's rabbit hunting foray.

After initial dissapointments and an RFD ripping me off for £26 quid for doing nothing,.while claiming to have tuned the rifle (You live and learn) I've come to really love what the Daystate Regal in .177 is actually capable of.

It needs a regulator that makes better, more efficient use of the air in the cylinder. It is a fair argument to say that, a rifle costing £800 quid should have a top notch reg as standard. But it doesn't. Daystate take note here!

I'm off to XTX air after reading what the lads here who know this Darren chap and his business is all about. A £200 service and fit. After that, if XTXair's work is all it's promised to be, this will be one seriously sorted PCP air rifle.

Don't write Daystate off gentlemen. I'm looking forward to what their eventual replacement for the Huntsman Regal will look like.

Simon, there are lots of very good rifles that don't have regulators yet still out-perform the Regal. AirArms S410, S510, BSA Scorpion SE to name just three.

Even the humble BSA Ultra, although it's shot count is less, has a more consistent sweet spot.

When you've established the sweet spot on a non-regulated rifle you can get very good consistency, the Regal, in my experience, just doesn't hold it's own with these rifles.

It looks great and handles superbly, but the action is loud and it feels cheap in comparison to rifles that cost much less.

An XTX reg and tune will work wonders but, as you intimated, an £800 rifle shouldn't need it.

If Daystate ever make a Huntsman derivative that shoots as good as it looks and handles, it'll be a world beater.

If Daystate seriously employs Weihrauch`s approach to the air gun industry then "we would be talking serious business"and sales

Until then Daystate will always be "Following Others"- simple.

Here here.

As an edit, I'd have one :)

They are over priced, but they'll bang the same hole just like most PCP's. Most will anyway.
