Hopeful Air Rifle Hunting Enthusiast

Recommended Posts

Hi Everybody,

New to the thehuntinglife today. I came across the site whilst researching into a good value air rifle that would suit me as a complete novice.

I've never owned an air rifle and only had very limited experience shooting (few pellets from an old break barrel of my grandads).

Joined the forums as it seems like a good community of experienced shooters!

My hopes are to find a reasonable quality air rifle that will allow me to get clean kills on rabbits. As a noob I'd like a cheap introduction to the sport in case I don't have any luck finding somewhere to hunt (live in a residential part of Peterborough, don't know any landowners but willing to door knock if needed).

From all I've read up on so far, I think I'm leaning towards investing in a gas-ram or maybe springer.

Found lots of positive stuff about the Hatsan 60S GS (Edgar-60S-TG-GR) which I think I could get new for circa £200.

I would appreciate people's thoughts... it seems the springer versions of the Hatsan 55&60s are like half the price (are gas ram worth the extra?

Anyways... im blabbing! Happy hunting!

Hello Luke

Give us some feed back and let us know how you get on.

Try the Hatsans and try some others to see what they feel like for you, mole has told you that hatsans will do the job so you have it covered and very good value.

For me it was like Harry Potters wand, that is to say the gun chose me.

Welcome.   Get a HW or an AA. Simplest post you get back. At the end of the day, buy cheap and you'll out grow it quickly. All the best with choice.

Hello ther and welcome to the section. Before you part with your cash, have a trip to the gunshops in your area and try a few good rifles out, like HW Weihrauch spring rifles, or Air Arms TX200 and s

Both will do the job , but IMO .22 is better cal in a spring gun

Just a thought, fins a local club to join, HFT type shooting (Hunter field Target) you will find shooters as varied as the rifles they use. Not many of them would refuse a fellow shooter a go with their pride and joy, use this to gain knwledge of tx200's HW97 etc and plan your finances accordingly, i recently purchased a mk1 TX200 of a group on Facebook selling Air rifles and hunting gear.

Hope that helps :victory:

Think Luke must be saving up some more money to get an AA or HW, way to go.

It takes ages to sort yourself out when you start or re start, have you ever noticed that what ever you want in life always costs more than you thought it would.

The slow way is the best, it has been said about trying out other peoples kit to get a feel for what suits you. I would go second hand rather than new if I only had a fixed price. When you get a feel for what you want you should repost asking if anyone has what you want at your price, I have seen some nice kit for the money on hear in the past.
